Does anyone know how to create smooth slow-motion edits like this? Also, what effect is being used, and where can I find it in CapCut?

I don't have CapCut Pro, so I'm looking for a method or effect that's available in the free version if possible. Thanks!

Hi,

I saw your clip. It looks like the "smooth slow motion" isn't coming from a special transition effect it's mainly created by frame interpolation (optical flow/AI slow motion) combined with speed ramping and some motion blur.

Here's how you can get a similar look in CapCut Free:

Method 1: Smooth Slow Motion (Best Free Method)

  1. Import your clip.
  2. Tap the clip → SpeedNormal.
  3. Reduce the speed to 0.3x–0.5x.
  4. If you see Smooth Slow-Mo (AI interpolation), turn it on and choose the highest quality available. This creates extra frames and makes the motion much smoother.
  5. Note: On some devices, Smooth Slow-Mo is free, while on others it's a Pro feature.

Method 2: Speed Ramping

If the slow motion only happens during action:

  1. Select the clip.
  2. Go to Speed → Curve.
  3. Choose Montage or Hero, or create a custom curve.
  4. Slow the clip during the action (0.2x–0.5x) and return to normal speed afterward.

This is what many cinematic edits use.

Add Motion Blur

If your version has it:

  • Effects → Lens → Motion Blur (or Video Effects → Blur depending on your version).
  • Keep it subtle (around 20–40%) so the slow motion looks more natural.

If You Don't Have Pro

If AI Smooth Slow-Mo is locked:

  • Shoot at 60 FPS or 120 FPS if your phone supports it.
  • Edit that footage at 30 FPS. Real high-frame-rate footage always looks smoother than slowing down 30 FPS video.
  • Use Speed Curve + a little motion blur to hide choppiness.

Is there a specific effect in your video?

From what I can see, I don't think it's a single CapCut effect. The look is mostly achieved with:

  • Slow Motion (AI interpolation if available)
  • Speed Curve / Speed Ramp
  • Motion Blur
  • Cinematic color grading (optional)

If you tell me which part of the video you're referring to (for example, the Superman punch, the close-up, or another timestamp), I can tell you the exact editing technique used at that moment and show you how to recreate it step by step in the free version of CapCut.
