The needle and video stop at one point, and then the video moves to another point.

I have the Shorts video ready, but when I play it in the preview, it runs up to a certain point, freezes, and then jumps to a different timestamp; I also noticed the playhead moving when it skips a part of the video.

Hi,

This looks to be a CapCut timeline/playback issue, not necessarily a problem with your actual Shorts video.

If the playhead itself jumps forward while previewing, CapCut is likely skipping/caching incorrectly or the timeline has an edit/speed setting causing a jump.

Try these in order:

  1. Check the timeline around the exact jump

    • Zoom into the timeline.

    • Look for a cut, gap, split, freeze-frame, speed change, or transition at the point where it jumps.

    • Make sure the video clips actually connect with no unintended gap.

  2. Check Speed

    • Select the clip.

    • Go to Speed → Normal.

    • Make sure there isn't a speed curve/keyframe causing the footage to jump.

  3. Check Freeze / Frame Hold

    • Look immediately before the jump for a Freeze segment or unusually short clip.

    • Delete it if it was added accidentally.

  4. Preview from an earlier point

    • Move the playhead several seconds before the problem.

    • Play again.

    • If it consistently jumps at exactly the same timeline position, there's probably an edit/timeline setting there.

  5. Clear CapCut's cache / restart

    • Save the project.

    • Completely close CapCut and reopen it.

    • If available in your version, clear CapCut's cache, then reopen the project.

  6. Export a short test

    • Export only a section containing the problem.

    • If the exported MP4 plays normally, it's just CapCut's preview rendering.

    • If the export also freezes and jumps, there's an actual timeline/clip issue that needs fixing.

If the playhead moves forward while the image freezes, rather than the playhead staying still, that strongly suggests CapCut is dropping/skipping frames during preview.

If the playhead actually jumps to a later timeline position, then we should inspect the edit/speed/freeze settings at that exact point.
