CapCut PC bug: PNG overlay duplicates another object

I'm experiencing a strange bug in CapCut for PC where a PNG overlay layer duplicates another object in my project. I haven't been able to figure out what's causing it.

I searched through forums and other discussions but couldn't find anyone with the same issue, so it almost seems like it's only happening on my PC.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows what might be causing it? Any suggestions or possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

From the video, I can see what you mean: it looks like one PNG character layer is unexpectedly showing the artwork from another character/object instead of its own image.

That kind of behavior is not a normal timeline mistake it points more toward CapCut displaying the wrong media internally.

Here are the most likely causes, starting with the ones I've seen cause similar issues in CapCut as well as other video editors:

1. Corrupted media cache (most likely)

CapCut sometimes mixes up cached previews, especially in projects with many PNG overlays.

Try:

  • Settings → Performance
  • Clear Media Cache (or delete the cache manually if necessary)
  • Restart CapCut

If the exported video is correct but only the preview is wrong, this is almost certainly the culprit.

2. Duplicated media reference

If several PNGs were duplicated from the same clip inside CapCut, the project database can occasionally reference the wrong source image.

Test this:

  • Delete the problematic overlay.
  • Import the PNG again from Explorer, not by duplicating an existing layer.
  • Replace the layer.

If the new import works, the old media reference became corrupted.

3. Proxy/render bug

If Proxy mode or preview optimization is enabled, try:

  • Disable Proxy.
  • Change Preview Quality.
  • Restart the project.

4. GPU rendering issue

This is surprisingly common with CapCut PC.

Try switching hardware acceleration:

  • Settings → Performance
  • Turn Hardware Acceleration OFF
  • Restart CapCut

If it's already off, try turning it on instead.

Also update your graphics driver (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel).

5. PNG filename conflict

If several images have similar names, for example:

head.png
head (1).png
head copy.png

CapCut can occasionally confuse them.

Rename the PNG outside CapCut to something unique like:

character_right_talking_v3.png

Then import it again.

6. Project corruption

If only this project is affected:

  • Create a new project.
  • Import only the problematic PNG.
  • See if it duplicates another object there.

If the bug disappears, the project file itself is likely corrupted.

A couple of questions

To narrow it down, could you tell me:

  1. Does the duplication appear only in the preview, or is it also present in the exported video?
  2. Does it always happen to the same PNG, or does a different overlay become duplicated each time?
  3. What version of CapCut PC are you using?
  4. What GPU do you have (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel)?

Those answers will help determine whether this is a rendering bug, a cache issue, or project corruption.
