I'm really hoping someone can help because I'm kind of panicking right now.
CapCut on my phone started glitching and eventually wouldn't open at all. I figured reinstalling the app would fix it, so I deleted it, downloaded it again, and logged back into my account.
The app is working now, but all of my projects are gone.
I've checked everywhere I can think of:
- Trash
- Spaces/Cloud
- My account after signing back in
Nothing is there.
Is there any way to recover projects after reinstalling the app on mobile? Were they stored locally, or is there another place I should check?
A few of the missing projects were commission videos, so losing them would be a huge problem.
If anyone has experienced this before or knows of a way to recover the projects, I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Unfortunately, on CapCut Mobile, reinstalling the app often removes locally stored projects. Whether they're recoverable depends on where they were saved before you uninstalled the app.
Here's what to check:
- Cloud Projects (Spaces/Cloud)
- If the projects were manually uploaded to CapCut Cloud before the reinstall, they should appear after you sign back into the same account.
- If your Cloud/Spaces is empty, they likely were never synced.
- Correct Account
- Make sure you're signed into the exact same account (Google, Apple, TikTok, Facebook, etc.). It's surprisingly common to accidentally log into a different method.
- Phone Storage
- CapCut projects on mobile are normally stored in the app's private storage.
- On both Android and iPhone, uninstalling the app usually deletes that private app data, including project files.
- Gallery/Exports
- Even if the editable projects are gone, any videos you exported should still be in your Photos/Gallery unless you deleted them.
Is recovery possible?
- If the projects were only stored locally: In most cases, no. Uninstalling the app removes the app's data, and reinstalling creates a fresh, empty project database.
- If you had cloud sync enabled: Signing into the correct account should restore them.
- If you have a full phone backup (iCloud backup on iPhone or a device backup on Android from before you uninstalled), restoring the entire device to that backup may restore the projects—but only if the backup included the app's data.
If you're on Android
If you have not used the phone much since reinstalling, there is a very small chance that advanced data recovery software could recover deleted files from internal storage. However:
- Success rates are generally low.
- Modern Android encryption makes recovery difficult or impossible on many devices.
- Continuing to use the phone reduces the chance of recovery.
Contact CapCut Support
If these were important commission projects, it's worth contacting CapCut support. If the projects were ever synced or associated with your account on their servers, CapCut support may be able to tell you whether any cloud copies exist. Include:
- Your CapCut account email or login method.
- Device model.
- Approximate dates the projects were created.
- The date you reinstalled the app.
To narrow it down, could you tell me:
- Android or iPhone?
- Did you uninstall the app completely, or just clear its cache/data?
- Were your projects showing a cloud icon or stored only under "Local" before this happened?
Those details will determine whether there are any realistic recovery options left.
