I'm having trouble with the Shorts Generator in CapCut. Whenever I upload a video, it keeps disconnecting and displays a message saying that I don't have an internet connection even though my internet is working fine.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, were you able to fix it? If there are any troubleshooting steps or known solutions, I'd really appreciate your help.

Hi,

That "No Internet Connection" error is a thing which is quite common in CapCut.

When it drops out mid-upload on the Shorts Generator, it isn't your actual Wi-Fi failing; it's a hitch in CapCut's background server communication, a corrupted cache file, or a hardware processing conflict.

The exact fix depends on whether you are editing on your PC or phone, but following these steps in order should get your upload through:

1. Clear the CapCut Cache (The most reliable fix)

Overloaded cache files frequently corrupt background background processes like AI short generation and video uploading.

  • On Desktop: Open CapCut PC/Mac → Click Settings (gear icon) at the top right → Settings → Under the Project tab, click Clear Cache.

  • On Mobile: Open CapCut → Tap your Profile / Settings icon → Tap Clear Cache. (Note: Do not clear "App Data" in your phone's main system settings, as that can wipe out your local offline drafts).

2. Disable Hardware Encoding (For PC/Mac Users)

If you are using the desktop version, CapCut tries to use your computer’s graphics card to speed things up. Sometimes, a sudden spike in GPU usage crashes the upload stream, making CapCut think it lost the internet.

  1. Go to Settings (gear icon) → Settings.

  2. Click on the Performance tab.

  3. Uncheck/Turn OFF Speed up hardware encoding.

  4. Save, restart CapCut, and try generating the shorts again.

3. Log out and refresh your session

CapCut authentication tokens expire silently in the background. When the app tries to access the cloud-heavy Shorts Generator with an expired session, it triggers a generic network error.

  • Go to your Profile, Sign Out, completely close and relaunch the app, then Sign back in. This forces a fresh handshake with CapCut's servers.

4. Check App-Specific Permissions (For Mobile Users)

Sometimes your phone blocks CapCut from using full network bandwidth during background tasks.

  • iOS: Go to your iPhone Settings → Cellular → scroll down to CapCut and ensure data permissions are toggled ON. Also, check if Low Data Mode is turned off in your Wi-Fi settings.

  • Android: Go to Settings → Apps → CapCut → Mobile Data & Wi-Fi → ensure background data usage is fully allowed.

5. Check for Server Blocks or VPN Interference

Because CapCut relies heavily on servers owned by ByteDance, certain corporate networks, public Wi-Fi setups, or strict antivirus firewalls block its data packets during large uploads.

  • If you are using a VPN, try turning it off.

  • Conversely, if you live in a region where CapCut features are restricted (like India or parts of the US), you might actually need a high-quality, stable VPN turned on to keep the connection alive.

Give the cache clearing and session refresh a shot first they usually do the trick!
