I'm hoping someone can help me with a really frustrating bug I've been dealing with for about two months now.
Whenever I try to search for effects, animations, or anything else in CapCut, my keyboard immediately closes/cancels, making it impossible to search properly. This happens every single time I use the search feature, not just occasionally.
I've already tried the following:
- Updated my iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
- Updated CapCut to the latest version.
- Restarted my phone.
- Cleared the CapCut cache.
Unfortunately, none of these have fixed the issue.
I use CapCut all the time for editing, so this has become incredibly frustrating. For example, when I'm working on finished edits and need to search for different effects to layer them, I constantly have to go back and forth because the search keeps interrupting me. It happens with effects, animations, and basically anything that uses the search bar.
Device: iPhone 17 Pro Max
Hi,
Given that it has persisted for about two months across iOS and CapCut updates, this is less likely to be a temporary glitch and more likely to be either a CapCut app bug or an interaction between CapCut and iOS on your device.
Quick Workarounds (Get Editing Right Now)
Before doing deeper troubleshooting, try these two quick tricks so you can complete your current project:
-
The Copy-Paste Bypass: Type your search term (e.g., "blur", "retro", "glitch") in your iPhone Notes app and copy it. Tap the search bar in CapCut, quickly tap Paste (or long-press), and hit return before the keyboard collapses.
-
Dictation / Voice Input: Tap the search bar in CapCut and immediately tap the Microphone icon on the bottom right of your keyboard to speak your query. Dictation often bypasses text-focus glitch triggers.
Here are a few additional things worth trying, in order:
- Force close CapCut and reopen it
- Swipe up from the bottom, pause, then swipe CapCut away.
- Reopen it and test search before opening any project.
- Test in a brand-new project
- Create a blank project.
- Tap Effects → Search.
- If the keyboard still dismisses, it's likely an app-level bug rather than a project issue.
- Disable any third-party keyboards
- Go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.
- Remove keyboards like Gboard or SwiftKey temporarily.
- Use only the default Apple keyboard and test again.
- Check if CapCut search works.
- Turn off keyboard features temporarily
- Disable Predictive Text.
- Disable Auto-Correction.
- Test whether the keyboard still dismisses.
- Reinstall CapCut
- If your projects are backed up to your CapCut account or cloud, delete the app completely and reinstall it.
- Be careful: if you have local projects that aren't backed up, uninstalling may delete them.
- Try searching while offline
- Turn on Airplane Mode (or disconnect Wi-Fi/cellular) and see whether the keyboard still closes.
- If it behaves differently, the issue could be related to loading online assets.
- Reset the iPhone keyboard dictionary
- Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
A few questions that could narrow it down:
- Does the keyboard disappear the instant you tap the search field, or after you type the first letter?
- Does this happen in every project, including a brand-new one?
- Are you using the Apple keyboard or a third-party keyboard like Gboard?
- Does it happen in all search screens (Effects, Animations, Stickers, Fonts, Audio), or only some of them?
- Does the search bar lose focus when the keyboard closes?
If none of the above helps
This seems to be more like a CapCut bug rather than an iPhone problem. Since it's been happening for months and survives updates, I would recommend:
- Recording a short screen recording showing:
- Opening CapCut.
- Tapping the search box.
- The keyboard immediately dismissing.
- Sending it to CapCut Support through Me → Settings → Feedback in the app, or via CapCut support page.
A video makes it much easier for CapCut engineers to reproduce the issue.
