Hi, the video I create give me only one option to ‘add music in tik tok’ on top right corner. As opposed to beige where it said export and I could save it on device. I don’t want to save a TikTok video, I want to save first and then upload on all my channels. Let me know what am I doing wrong or missing please. Treat this as urgent
Hi,
Export option in CapCut isn't behaving as expected. The "add music to TikTok" option appearing instead of "Export" indicates one of a few things, especially if you have been able to export before.
You are not doing anything wrong — this is a common CapCut issue, especially if you're:
-
Using the mobile app, and
-
Logged in or working on a project from the TikTok template section (like “Edit for TikTok” or “AutoCut”).
Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it:
Why You’re Only Seeing "Add Music in TikTok" Instead of Export:
-
You may have started your project from a TikTok-specific template or feature (like “Edit for TikTok” or through a shared TikTok link).
-
These kinds of projects are linked to TikTok directly, so CapCut only gives the option to send the video to TikTok — not export it to your device.
Fix 1: Start a Fresh Project Manually
-
Open CapCut app.
-
Tap “New Project” (not from TikTok or "AutoCut").
-
Add your clips, edit as usual.
-
Now at the top right, you should see “Export” or the upload icon (⬆️).
-
Tap Export, then choose your quality (e.g., 1080p/4K), and Save to Device.
Fix 2: Duplicate or Recreate Without TikTok Link
If you're already deep into the current project:
-
Tap the three dots (…) or “More” in the top right.
-
See if there's an option like “Save as new project” or “Duplicate”.
-
Then remove TikTok elements or music if present.
-
Try exporting again.
If not working, you might need to:
-
Export screen record as temporary workaround.
-
Or recreate the video in a new "independent" project (see Fix 1).
Fix 3: Use the PC/Windows Version of CapCut
If you're using CapCut on PC, it never forces you to export only to TikTok. Just click:
-
Export (top right)
-
Then choose your resolution
-
Save to local folder
Avoid TikTok-Linked Projects in the Future
When you open CapCut:
-
Do not start from TikTok templates, AutoCut, or suggested TikTok videos.
-
Always tap “New Project” and add clips yourself.
Common Reasons for Missing Export Option / TikTok-Only Option:
-
"Post as Template" Feature: If you started your project by selecting a "Post as Template" option (sometimes found in the "Me" or "Template" tab in CapCut, or if you used a TikTok template directly in CapCut), the app will default to a TikTok-centric export. This is a common culprit.
- Solution: Try creating a new project from the "Edit" tab by pressing the plus sign to start from scratch. Then, import your video clips. This often brings back the standard export options.
-
Using CapCut Pro Features without a Subscription: CapCut sometimes restricts direct device export or higher quality exports if you've used "Pro" features (certain effects, transitions, fonts, etc.) without having an active CapCut Pro subscription. The app will then push you to upgrade or only allow posting to TikTok.
- Solution:
- Review your project: Go back through your edit and look for any elements with a small "Pro" icon (usually a crown or diamond).
- Remove or replace Pro elements: If you find any, remove them or replace them with free alternatives.
- Upgrade to Pro: If you want to use those features, you will need to subscribe to CapCut Pro.
- Solution:
-
Outdated CapCut App: Bugs or changes in the app can sometimes cause export issues.
- Solution: Go to your device's app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store), search for CapCut, and make sure it's updated to the latest version.
-
Insufficient Storage Space: While it might not directly cause the "TikTok only" prompt, insufficient storage can definitely lead to export failures. If your device is low on space, CapCut might not even attempt a full export to your device.
- Solution: Check your device's storage and free up some space if necessary.
-
Corrupted Project/Cache: Sometimes, the app's cache can get corrupted, leading to odd behavior.
- Solution:
- Clear CapCut cache:
- Android: Go to your phone's Settings > Apps (or Apps & Notifications) > CapCut > Storage & Cache, then tap "Clear Cache."
- iPhone: There's no direct "clear cache" button. You usually have to offload the app (which keeps your data but clears the app itself) or uninstall and reinstall it. Before doing this, ensure your projects are backed up or synced to the cloud if CapCut offers that feature, or you might lose them!
- Restart CapCut: Close the app completely and reopen it.
- Restart your device: A simple reboot can often resolve temporary glitches.

How to Export to Your Device - the typical process:
When everything is working correctly, after you've finished editing your video in CapCut:
- Look for the export button in the top right corner. It looks like an upward-pointing arrow or a square with an arrow pointing out.
- Tapping this button should bring up the export settings screen. Here, you can usually adjust:
- Resolution (e.g., 720p, 1080p, 2K, 4K)
- Frame Rate (e.g., 24fps, 30fps, 60fps)
- Code Rate/Quality
- After selecting your desired settings, you should see an "Export" button at the bottom (or similar, like "Save to device" or "Download"). Tapping this will begin the rendering process and save the video to your device's photo gallery or camera roll.
What to do now:
- Try creating a brand new project: This is the most common fix for the "TikTok only" issue. Make sure you start from the "Edit" tab.
- Check for Pro features: Carefully review your current project for any elements that might be "Pro" features.
- Update CapCut: Ensure your app is fully updated.
- Clear cache/reinstall: If the above don't work, consider clearing the cache or reinstalling (with caution about saving your projects).
Hopefully, one of these solutions helps you get back to saving your videos directly to your device. If you're still stuck, feel free to upload a screenshot of the interface you see and we can point out exactly what's causing it.
