Hi everyone,

I'm using a PC, and the forward and back buttons on my mouse used to let me move quickly along the timeline. Recently, they've started moving very slowly instead.

Basically, the mouse buttons used to let me zoom along the timeline, but now they only move in small increments.

Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance! 👍

Hi,

CapCut for PC doesn't have a native, built-in setting to customize mouse side buttons (Forward/Back). Because it was working perfectly before and suddenly stopped, the root cause is almost always that your mouse's companion software lost its custom profile or macro for CapCut, reverting the buttons back to standard Windows defaults (which CapCut reads as single-increment arrow or page actions).

Here is exactly how to get your fast timeline navigation back:

Step 1: Check your Mouse Software Profile

Most modern mice (Logitech, Razer, Corsair, SteelSeries, etc.) use software that detects when a specific app is open and swaps to a custom profile. Sometimes an update breaks this automatic switching.

  1. Open your mouse configuration program (e.g., Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, Corsair iCUE, SteelSeries GG).

  2. Look at the top of the screen to see which Profile is currently active.

  3. If it says "Default" instead of "CapCut", your mouse isn't recognizing that the video editor is open.

  4. You will need to manually link the profile to CapCut's desktop .exe file or set your CapCut configurations directly onto the "Default" profile.

Step 2: Remap the Side Buttons to CapCut Shortcuts

To make the Forward and Back buttons quickly navigate or zoom again, you need to assign them to CapCut's keyboard shortcuts inside your mouse software:

  • If you want them to zoom the timeline in and out:

    • Assign the Forward Button to the keystroke: Ctrl + + (or Ctrl + =).

    • Assign the Back Button to the keystroke: Ctrl + -.

  • If you want them to scroll horizontally faster:

    • Change the button assignments from standard "Forward/Back" to a Macro or Scroll Action.

    • Alternatively, map them to simulate Horizontal Scroll Left and Horizontal Scroll Right.

Step 3: Check Windows Mouse Scroll Settings

If you didn't use dedicated mouse software and relied purely on plug-and-play Windows settings, a Windows update may have altered your scrolling increments:

  1. Press the Windows Key, type Mouse settings, and hit Enter.

  2. Look for Choose how many lines to scroll each time.

  3. If this number was reset to 1 or a very low number, it forces all scroll-adjacent inputs to move in tiny increments. Bump it back up to 3 or higher and check CapCut again.
