CapCut has changed the interface quite a bit over the last couple of years. The good news is that Chroma Key hasn't been removed from the mobile app, but it's no longer as obvious as it used to be.

Here's where to find it on recent versions:

1. Create a new project and add your background clip first.

2. Tap Overlay → Add overlay and import your green screen footage.

3. Select the overlay clip on the timeline (this is important).

4. Scroll the bottom toolbar until you find Remove BG.

5. Tap Remove BG → Chroma Key.

6. Use the color picker to select the green (or blue) background, then adjust the Intensity (and any edge/shadow controls if available) until the background disappears.

If you don't see "Chroma Key"

There are a few possibilities:

• The overlay clip isn't selected. Chroma Key only appears when the overlay video is active.

• You're looking at the main clip instead of an overlay. The option is tied to overlays, not the base video.

• Your app version or region is using a different feature rollout. CapCut sometimes A/B tests or changes feature availability by version or region.

• AI Remove Background is being emphasized instead. Some versions surface the AI background remover more prominently, especially for Premium users, while Chroma Key is tucked inside the Remove BG menu.

If Chroma Key really isn't available

If your version genuinely doesn't include it, your alternatives are:

• AI Background Removal (better for people without a green screen, but may require Premium).

• Install an older CapCut version (only if you're comfortable sideloading on Android; not recommended for security reasons).

• Use CapCut Desktop, which still includes a dedicated Chroma Key tool.
