i have a cc project that is about 10 minutes long ... but i want to export only a particular 45 second section of the timeline ...
any thoughts ...

Hi,
The situation which you described is a common need when working on longer projects. CapCut on Android doesn't have a direct feature to select a specific time range on the timeline and only export that selection like some desktop editors do.
However, you can achieve this easily using a workaround. The best way is to isolate the section you want before exporting:
Recommended Method: Duplicate and Trim
This is the safest way as it preserves your original 10-minute project.
- Open CapCut: Launch the app.
- Find Your Project: On the main CapCut screen (where all your projects are listed), find your 10-minute project.
- Duplicate the Project: Tap and hold the project thumbnail, or tap the three dots (...) next to the project name. Look for an option like "Duplicate" or "Copy". Tap that. You'll now have an identical copy of your project.
- Open the Duplicate: Tap on the newly created copy of your project to open it in the editor.
- Isolate the 45-Second Section: Now, you need to remove everything except the 45-second part you want:
- Go to the start of the 45-second section you want to keep. Tap on the clip just before this point and use the "Split" tool. Now select the entire part of the video before the split point (it might be one long clip or multiple clips) and tap "Delete".
- Go to the end of the 45-second section. Tap on the clip at this point and use the "Split" tool. Now select the entire part of the video after this split point and tap "Delete".
- Fine-Tune: You should now be left with only the clips making up your desired 45-second section. You might need to trim the very beginning or end slightly using the white handles on the selected clip to get the exact duration. Check the total duration displayed on the timeline.
- Export: Once you're happy and the timeline only contains the 45 seconds you want, tap the Export button (usually an arrow pointing up in the top-right corner). Choose your desired resolution and frame rate, and export the video.
This exported video will only contain the 45-second section you isolated in the duplicated project. Your original 10-minute project remains untouched.
Alternative (Riskier) Method: Trim the Original Project
You could perform steps 5 & 6 directly on your original project, export the 45-second clip, and then try to use the "Undo" button repeatedly to get your full 10-minute project back. Here is the step by step method:
- Open your project in CapCut.
- Scrub through the timeline and find the start of the 45-second section you want to export.
- Tap on the clip and then tap Split (scissors icon) at the start of the section.
- Move to the end of the 45 seconds, and Split again.
- Now you’ll have a 45-second clip in the middle of your timeline.
- Delete everything else (clips before and after that section).
- Tap Export (top right corner) and save your trimmed section.
However, this is risky – if the app crashes or you close it accidentally, you might lose your original edit. It's much safer to use the Duplicate method.
CapCut doesn’t currently let you select an export range like some desktop editors (e.g., Premiere), so trimming is the only real option.
Let us know if you run into any trouble with these steps or if you need help finding the exact frames or if you are trying to keep specific audio/music synced with that section too.
thanks ... it's that step 6 that is a bit of an understatement .... once step 5a is done (deleting the main timeline portion that precedes the 45-second section (roughly 4minutes and 8 seconds), the main timeline, and only the main timeline, snaps the 45-second section back to the 0.0second point but leaves all other assets right where they were ... etc etc etc ...
but thanks for the good explanation ... btw are you an actual person or are you an AI thing a ma jig ..
the main timeline, and only the main timeline, snaps the 45-second section back to the 0.0second point
In this situation, the below less efficient method might actually be less frustrating:
- Export the Full Video: Go back to your original, untouched 10-minute project. Export the entire thing in the quality you need.
- Start a NEW Project: Create a completely new, empty CapCut project.
- Import the 10-Min Export: Import the video file you just exported (the full 10-minute version).
- Trim Easily: In this new project, the 10-minute video is just one single clip on the main track. There are no other assets to worry about. Simply drag the start and end handles of this clip, or use the split tool, to isolate your desired 45-second section.
- Export the 45s Clip: Export from this simple project.
- This method uses more storage temporarily and involves an extra export/import step, but it completely avoids the headache of realigning multiple assets on a complex timeline.

Thanks for asking. We do extensive research before posting.
