I’ve just travelled to a new country for a bit and I’m unable to access CapCut. I’ve got very good WiFi here and it says “no internet connection” which isn’t true because I’m literally able to access every other app here .

I’ve used CapCut before when I’ve travelled with no issues. Could you please help me look into this.

Hi,

It is annoying when CapCut doesn't work while traveling, especially when your internet connection seems fine otherwise. Here are the likely reasons and potential solutions for the "no internet connection" error you are seeing:

1. Country Restrictions

  • CapCut is banned or restricted in certain countries due to data security concerns or broader government policies. It is currently banned in India and Afghanistan.
  • While there have been temporary restrictions in other places like the US (due to its connection with TikTok's parent company, ByteDance), access has been restored in the US. However, restrictions could potentially exist in other regions as well.
  • If you are currently in a country where CapCut is restricted, the app might intentionally block connections, leading to the error message you see.

2. Technical Glitches & Connection Issues

Even if you aren't in a restricted country, this error can occur due to various technical reasons:

  • CapCut Server Problems: Sometimes CapCut's own servers might be down for maintenance or experiencing issues.
  • App Cache/Data Issues: Corrupted temporary files within the app can cause connectivity problems.
  • Outdated App Version: Ensure you have the latest version of CapCut installed, as updates often fix bugs.
  • Network Configuration: Specific device network settings, VPNs, or proxy settings (even if intended for other purposes) might interfere with CapCut's connection. On iPhones, iCloud Private Relay has sometimes been linked to this issue.
  • App Permissions: CapCut might lack the necessary permissions to access the internet on your device.

Troubleshooting Steps You Can Try:

Here are several steps suggested to fix this issue:

  • Verify Basic Connection: Although other apps work, double-check that your WiFi is stable. Try switching to mobile data if possible, just to test.
  • Restart Your Device: A simple restart often clears temporary glitches.
  • Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds, then turn it off to reset network connections.
  • Update CapCut: Check the app store for any available updates for CapCut.
  • Use a VPN: This is a common solution, especially if you suspect regional restrictions.
    • Install a reputable VPN app (suggestions include ProtonVPN, NordVPN, ExpressVPN).
    • Connect the VPN to a server in a country where CapCut is known to work (like the UK, Canada, or Australia).
    • Try opening CapCut again while connected to the VPN.
  • Disable VPN/Proxy: If you are already using a VPN or proxy for other reasons, try disabling it temporarily to see if it's interfering with CapCut.
  • Clear Cache & Data (Use with Caution):
    • Go into your phone's Settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage.
    • Try clearing the cache first. If that doesn't work, you can try clearing data.
    • Warning: Clearing data might delete your saved projects or drafts within the app, so back them up if possible.
  • Check App Permissions: Ensure CapCut has permission to use WiFi and/or mobile data in your phone's settings.
    • On iOS: Settings > CapCut > make sure Wi-Fi and Mobile Data are enabled.
    • On Android: Settings > Network Access > CapCut > ensure it's allowed on all networks.
  • Reinstall CapCut: Uninstalling and reinstalling the app can fix corrupted files. Warning: This will delete your saved projects and drafts.
  • (iPhone) Check iCloud Private Relay: Go to Settings > [Your Apple ID] > iCloud > Private Relay and try turning it off.
  • DNS Issues:
    • Sometimes Wi-Fi networks in other countries may restrict certain DNS queries. You could try switching to Google DNS:
      • Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
      • You can set this up in your phone's Wi-Fi settings manually.
  • Offline Trick: You can try turning on Airplane Mode after opening CapCut allows basic editing and exporting, bypassing the internet check.

Since you've traveled, the most likely cause is a regional restriction, and using a VPN is often the most effective solution in that case. Hopefully, one of these steps helps you get back to editing!
