Hi everyone,
I've seen several posts about CapCut storage issues and the different workarounds people have suggested.
Does anyone know if it's safe to delete the hidden folders inside the /CapCut Drafts directory? They seem to be taking up the majority of my storage space.
The hidden folders I'm referring to are:
.recycle_bin.cloud_cache
Has anyone deleted these before, and if so, did it cause any issues?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
In most cases the answer is yes but with some caveats.
Below is what those folders are generally used for:
.recycle_bin: This is a trash/recycle folder where deleted draft assets are temporarily kept. Deleting its contents is usually safe if you don't need to recover any recently deleted drafts. CapCut recreates the folder automatically..cloud_cache: This is a cache for cloud-related data (such as thumbnails, downloaded assets, or synchronization metadata). Deleting it is also safe, though CapCut may need to re-download or regenerate cached data the next time you use cloud features.
Before you delete anything
- Make sure CapCut is completely closed.
- If you have important local drafts, back them up first.
- If you use CapCut Cloud, ensure your projects have finished syncing before clearing cache-related files.
What to expect afterward
After deleting these folders or their contents, you will notice:
- The folders are recreated automatically.
- Slightly longer loading times the first time you open certain projects.
- Cloud assets or thumbnails may need to be downloaded again.
What not to delete
Avoid deleting folders that contain your actual projects, such as:
- Draft project folders
- Project databases or configuration files if you're unsure what they do
Those can make projects disappear or become unreadable.
If you're trying to free up significant space
If these hidden folders are unusually large (tens or hundreds of GB), it's worth checking:
- Whether old draft projects can be deleted from within CapCut.
- using the CapCut built-in Clear Cache option in Settings, which is the safest way to remove cached data.
Can you share the below details to help you further:
- Windows or macOS?
- How large are
.recycle_binand.cloud_cache? - Are your drafts stored locally or synced to CapCut Cloud?
We can give more specific guidance on what can be safely removed.
