  • How do I move all the caption bars at once instead of 1 by 1. I used script to video. I added a new clip to the front, which made the caption bars before adding the new clip move to the left. How do I move all the caption back to its original placements?

Hi,

This is a common issue when inserting content at the beginning of a timeline after elements like captions have already been placed. Here’s how you can move all the caption bars at once in CapCut (assuming you're using the Desktop version, though the principle is similar on mobile):

The Solution: Selecting and Moving Multiple Caption Elements

The key is to select all the caption segments you want to move simultaneously.

  1. Locate the Captions: Find the text track(s) on your timeline where the captions are located. They usually appear as individual rectangular blocks.
  2. Select All Relevant Captions: You have a couple of ways to do this:
    • Method 1: Shift-Click (Usually the easiest for a long sequence):

      • Click on the very first caption segment that needs to be moved (the one that was originally at the start before you added the new clip).
      • Scroll down your timeline to find the very last caption segment.
      • Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
      • While holding Shift, click on the last caption segment.
      • This should select the first, the last, and all the caption segments in between. They should all be highlighted (often with a yellow or white border).
    • Method 2: Drag Selection (Marquee Select):
        • Position your mouse cursor on the timeline above or below the first caption segment you want to select, in an empty area.
        • Click and hold the left mouse button.
        • Drag your mouse cursor across the timeline to draw a selection box that completely encompasses all the caption segments you want to move.
        • Release the mouse button. All caption segments inside the box should now be selected. (You might need to zoom out the timeline view using the slider or Ctrl + Mouse Wheel to see all captions at once).
  1. Move the Selected Group:
    • Once all the desired caption segments are selected (highlighted), click and hold on any one of the selected segments.
    • Drag the entire group to the left. Move them back to where the first selected caption segment aligns correctly with the original audio/video it corresponds to. All other selected captions will move along with it, maintaining their relative timing to each other.
    • Release and Verify: Release the mouse button when the captions are back in their correct original position relative to the content they describe. Play back the section to ensure the timing is correct.

By selecting all the caption segments together before dragging, you move them as a single unit, preserving their internal timing while shifting their overall position on the timeline.

To move all captions back to their original positions simultaneously, follow these steps:

  1. Select All Captions:

    • On CapCut for PC, hold down the Shift or Ctrl key and click on each caption bar to select them. Alternatively, you can click and drag a selection box over all the caption bars to highlight them at once.

  2. Group Captions into a Compound Clip:

    • With all captions selected, right-click and choose the option to create a compound clip. This groups all selected captions into a single clip, allowing you to move them together seamlessly.

  3. Move the Compound Clip:

    • Click and drag the compound clip to the desired position on the timeline, aligning the captions back to their original placements.

This method ensures that all your captions move together, maintaining their synchronization with the video content. For a video demonstration, you can refer to this tutorial:
