I edit professionally and for fun, and CapCut has been my go to for editing shorts for projects as it's very streamlined and has a few tools that have made my life so much easier. However, my machine at the company I work for has a bunch of features that I don't have on my personal machine, even though it is my account signed in at both. In theory, everything should be the same. They have the same version update, the same OS, even the same computer model. In fact my personal one has better hardware than my work computer.
My work computer allows me to remove backgrounds with the custom removal, adjust feathering, size and expansion of the mask once it's made. My personal one only lets me adjust the brush size, and doesn't give me any options for tweaking once it is done.
Work computer lets me isolate stems of audio, separating the voice, drums, instruments, etc etc. My personal computer only lets me keep or remove the voice, without even an option for the others.
It's little things like this that I'm just at a loss for, and I'm nervous to delete and reinstall the program as I don't want to somehow lose project data. Anyone run in to this before or have any ideas as to why this might be the case? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
This is actually a common and confusing issue with CapCut Desktop (even in Pro). It usually happens due to how CapCut manages feature rollouts, caching, and region-linked server toggles, even when using the same version and same account. Let’s go through what’s happening and how to fix it safely, without risking your projects
Why this happens? even with the same account and version
-
Server-Side Feature Rollouts (A/B Testing)
-
CapCut runs staggered rollouts — meaning some users get new features earlier as part of live testing.
-
Features like Custom Background Removal, Feather Mask Control, and Audio Stem Separation are cloud-enabled, not purely version-based.
-
So, one device (your work machine) may have been “flagged” by CapCut’s backend to receive the new experimental features, while your home PC hasn’t yet.
-
-
Region/Server Mismatch
-
CapCut routes feature access via your account’s region setting (based on IP or original signup region).
-
If your work PC connects through a corporate or different network (VPN, office IP, etc.), it might be hitting a different feature flag server.
-
That is why even with the same login, your home device shows fewer AI tools.
-
-
Cached Account Data / App Config Desync
-
Sometimes CapCut caches local config files that “lock in” an older feature set.
-
Even reinstalling normally won’t reset these, unless you manually clear local cache folders after uninstalling.
-
-
License sync delay
-
Some times your CapCut Pro entitlements (e.g. AI credits or advanced tool unlocks) take time to fully propagate across devices especially if one logged in before your Pro activation.
-
Step-by-Step fixes which you can try:
Option 1: Force Feature Sync (Non-destructive)
-
Logout of your account on both computers.
-
On your personal machine, go to:
and delete the “User Data” and “Cache” folders.
(This does not delete your projects — they live inDocuments\CapCut.) -
Restart CapCut and log in again.
-
Check under:
-
Settings → Version Info → Check for Updates
-
Settings → Feedback → “Feature Test”
-
-
Reopen your project and test if “Audio Separation” or “Custom Background Removal” tools appear.
Option 2: Check Beta/Region Access
-
On your work PC, open:
Help → About CapCut → Build Info / Channel-
Sometimes it says
Stable,Beta, orEarly Access.
-
-
If your work PC shows “Beta” or similar, it’s on a feature-preview build.
-
In that case, you can install the same build on your personal machine:
-
Choose “Try Beta” (small text under the main button).
-
Option 3: Copy over feature config (advanced but safe)
If you are comfortable with file paths:
-
On your work PC, go to:
-
Copy the files named
config.json. -
Paste them into the same folder on your personal machine (after backing up originals).
-
This sometimes re-enables hidden feature toggles that are already active on the same account.
-
Option 4: Reinstall without losing projects
If none of the above work and you still want to reinstall:
-
Back up your project folder:
-
Uninstall CapCut completely.
-
Delete these residual folders before reinstalling:
-
Reinstall CapCut and log in again.
-
Your projects can then be restored by copying the backup back into the
Documents\CapCutfolder.
-
Cross-check account tier
Even though both are “Pro,” sometimes the license validation server changes access depending on device type or network.
To confirm both are truly Pro:
-
Go to Settings → Account → Subscription Status on both.
-
Compare the “Plan ID” or “License Active Until” date.
-
If they differ, CapCut may not have synced your Pro tier to the second device properly (which is a known bug).
Summary
| Issue | Root Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Missing AI tools (audio, mask) | Feature rollout not yet active on one device | Clear cache + relogin |
| Background remover options missing | Account not synced with AI server region | Try VPN or office IP |
| Same version, different tools | Beta vs stable channel | Match build versions |
| Fear of reinstall | Risk-free if you back up Documents\CapCut |
Safe reinstall ok |
We can help you check which build channel or region your current CapCut Pro is on, and guide you to match your work machine exactly can you please tell us:
-
The CapCut version number on both devices (found in Help → About CapCut), and
-
Whether your work computer is signed into a business network or uses a VPN?
Once we have that, we will give you precise steps to align both systems.
