Hi everyone,
I’m trying to create a template on my phone and really need the Compound Clip feature—but I can’t seem to find it in the mobile version of CapCut.

Does it exist under a different name on mobile, or is it only available on PC? Also, is it possible to create a template on my PC and then post or use it on my phone?

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions!

pls tell me that there is compound clip on phone v0 85v66kp18hdf1

Hi,

Does CapCut Mobile Have a “Compound Clip” Feature?

No, the Compound Clip feature (used to merge multiple layers into one single clip for easier editing) is currently only available on the desktop (PC/Mac) version of CapCut. As of now, CapCut mobile (iOS/Android) does not include this feature under any name.

On mobile, there are workarounds, but no direct “compound” option:

  • You can export your edited clip and then re-import it as one clip (which mimics compounding).

  • Or use Grouping (available in some updates) to temporarily link elements, but this isn’t the same as merging them.

In CapCut mobile, you can select multiple clips on your timeline, and then look for an option to "Group" them. Grouping clips allows you to move, resize, and apply effects to them simultaneously, much like a compound clip.

Looking at your screenshot, you have "Photo 1" and "Photo 2" stacked. To achieve a "compound clip" effect here, you would typically:

  1. Select both "Photo 1" and "Photo 2" on the timeline.

  2. Look for a "Group" or similar icon (it might be a double rectangle or an icon representing multiple layers merging).

  3. Tap it to group them.

If you don't see a "Group" option directly, sometimes this functionality is tied to other features like "Overlay" or "Picture-in-Picture" where you can layer and manipulate elements together. However, "Group" is the most common equivalent.

Can you create a template on PC and use it on your phone?

Yes, but with limitations.

CapCut supports cross-platform project access through your CapCut account only if:

  • You’re logged into the same CapCut account on both your PC and mobile.

  • The project/template is saved to the Cloud (not just locally).

Steps to make it work:

  1. On PC:

    • Finish editing and save the project.

    • Upload the project to Cloud Backup.

    • Or export the final version and save it to your CapCut cloud drive.

  2. On Mobile:

    • Open CapCut and go to Cloud Space (or Templates, if applicable).

    • You should see your cloud projects there, ready to open or edit.

    • Important Note: You can’t upload desktop-made projects directly as mobile “Templates” (i.e., to be reused by others inside the Templates tab) unless you do this via the CapCut Creator Program, which is currently mobile-focused.

Summary

Feature Available on Mobile? Available on PC?
Compound Clip No Yes
Export project from PC to Phone Yes (Cloud or export) Yes
Create reusable Template on PC Not directly (But limited unless posted online)

If you're trying to make reusable templates with compound edits, it’s best to:

  • Create on PC with Compound Clip, then

  • Export or Cloud-save, and finally

  • Edit or share via your phone.

Here's a step-by-step workflow guide to create a CapCut template using Compound Clip on PC, and then access or use it on your phone.

Part 1: Create and Compound on PC

  1. Open CapCut Desktop (PC or Mac)
Make sure you're signed into your CapCut account.

  2. Start a New Project
Add your media (video, photos, audio, overlays, effects).

  3. Edit Normally
Arrange clips, add keyframes, animations, effects, etc.

  4. Use the Compound Clip Feature

    • Select the layers you want to merge.

    • Right-click and choose "Create Compound Clip".

    • This merges them into a single, editable clip for smoother editing.

  5. Finalize Your Template Structure
Leave placeholders (e.g., “Insert your photo here”) if you're building a reusable layout.

  6. Save Your Project

    • Go to File > Save.

    • Make sure it’s saved in the cloud (click Cloud Backup from the top bar).

    • Or export it as a full video if you're not editing further.

Part 2: Upload to Cloud or Export

Option A: CapCut Cloud Backup (Best for Editing Later)

  • Click the cloud icon at the top right and select "Backup Project to Cloud".

  • This allows you to open and edit the same project on your phone.

Option B: Export as Video (Best for Finished Templates)

  • Click Export and choose your resolution.

  • Upload the exported video to CapCut Cloud Drive or send it to your phone via Google Drive/AirDrop/etc.

Part 3: Access and Use on Mobile

  1. Open CapCut on Your Phone

    • Log into the same CapCut account.

    • Tap Cloud or My Projects > Cloud Projects.

  2. Open the Project or Import Video

    • If you used Cloud Backup: Open the editable project.

    • If you exported a video: Tap New Project > Import from Cloud Drive or your phone storage.

  3. Customize It

    • Replace placeholder clips with your own photos/videos.

    • Add captions, music, or adjustments for mobile.

  4. Export or Save as a Mobile Template (Optional)

    • You can post it to CapCut’s Templates section (must be on mobile).

    • Or just save and reuse locally for your own edits.
