WHY is there NO templates on the desktop for MAC?
Hi,
CapCut on Mac does not currently support templates in the same way the mobile (iOS/Android) version does. Here's why and what's going on:
Why there are no templates on CapCut for Mac (Desktop):
-
CapCut's desktop version (both Windows and Mac) is designed more like a traditional video editor, offering more manual control (keyframes, layers, etc.) but fewer automated, mobile-style features like templates.
-
Templates are prioritized for mobile users, where CapCut is used heavily for fast, social media-style edits. That’s why:
-
You see hundreds of templates on the iPhone or Android app.
-
But on Mac or PC, templates are missing or extremely limited.
-
-
Different architecture: Mobile templates rely on a backend system designed specifically for the mobile interface and usage. The desktop version hasn’t caught up to that yet.
- Regional Restrictions: One of the most significant reasons is geo-blocking. CapCut's template library and even certain AI features can vary significantly depending on your geographical location. Users in some regions (like the US, Japan, or the Philippines) may have more access to templates than those in others (like Europe).
- App Version and Updates: Sometimes, the desktop application, including the Mac version, might not be as frequently updated with new features as the mobile app. If your CapCut for Mac is an older version, it might not have the latest template functionality.
Workarounds:
-
Option 1: Start your edit on mobile (iPhone or Android) using a template, then export it as a project file and try importing it into your Mac version of CapCut. (Limited compatibility, but can sometimes work.)
-
Option 2: Use CapCut Web
CapCut’s web version https://www.capcut.com does support templates, and you can use those on a Mac via the browser. - You can start your project with a template on the web and then potentially switch to the desktop app for more advanced editing if needed (though direct template editing might still redirect you back to the web).
- Use a VPN: You can try accessing templates on the desktop by using a VPN and connecting to a server in a region known to have template availability (e.g., USA). After connecting to the VPN, close and re-open CapCut.
- Explore "Library" or "Media" on Desktop: While not the same as the dedicated "Templates" tab, there are certain pre-made elements or stock media within the "Library" or "Media" sections of the desktop app that can be used as a starting point.
If templates are essential to you, it’s best to use the mobile version or the web editor rather than the standalone desktop app for Mac.
