my capcut application does not start anymore on my windows laptop after I downloaded the last update
Hi,
Let us fix your CapCut not starting after the latest update on Windows. This is a common issue that happens when an update corrupts the installation, cache, or conflicts with GPU drivers. We will go step by step
1. Force Close and Restart
First, make sure CapCut isn’t already stuck in the background:
-
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → open Task Manager.
-
Under Processes, look for CapCut.exe or CapCut Helper.
-
Right-click → End Task for all of them.
-
Try opening CapCut again.
2. Run as Administrator
Right-click the CapCut shortcut → choose Run as administrator.
If it launches this way, you can fix it permanently:
-
Right-click shortcut → Properties → Compatibility → Check “Run this program as an administrator” → Apply.
3. Clear CapCut Cache without losing projects
Sometimes update files get stuck:
-
Press Windows + R, paste this and hit Enter:
-
Open the Cache folder and delete its contents (not the entire folder).
-
Then also go to:
and delete cache and temp subfolders.
Try launching again.
4. Repair Installation
If it still doesn’t start:
-
Press Windows + I → Apps → Installed apps.
-
Find CapCut → click ... → Advanced options.
-
Click Repair (and if that fails, click Reset, but note this will remove preferences).
5. Reinstall properly using the Clean Method
If none of the above helps:
-
Uninstall CapCut completely.
-
Then delete these folders manually (if still exist):
-
Restart your PC.
-
Download the latest installer directly from here.
-
Reinstall and open again.
6. GPU or Driver Conflict (Post-Update Bug)
If it still won’t launch:
-
Update your graphics drivers (NVIDIA / AMD / Intel).
-
Temporarily disable hardware acceleration (if you can open CapCut’s settings before it crashes).
-
Or launch CapCut in compatibility mode:
-
Right-click CapCut shortcut → Properties → Compatibility tab
-
Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” → choose Windows 8.
-
Apply and restart.
-
7. Known Bug in the October 2025 update:
This bug has been reported that the latest CapCut PC update (October 2025) crashes or fails to start on Windows 10/11.
Temporary fix: Install the previous version manually (see steps in the next section).
We can guide you through safely rolling back to a previous working version of CapCut on your Windows PC.
Here is how you can do it:
Step 1: Pick a stable older version
Some known past versions of CapCut for Windows (from repositories of older builds) include:
-
CapCut 5.9.1
-
CapCut 5.9.0, 5.8.0
-
Older ones like 4.8.0.1818 etc.
A good candidate is CapCut 6.0.0.2291, since it’s relatively recent (pre-update) and often more stable.
You can find these versions on CapCut PRO website also. Just visit the homepage of our website and choose the version which you would like to use.
Step 2: Uninstall the current (faulty) version
-
Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & Features).
-
Find CapCut in the list, click, and Uninstall.
-
After uninstallation, restart your computer.
Also, manually delete leftover folders (if any):
-
C:\Program Files\CapCut
-
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\CapCut
-
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\CapCut
This ensures no conflicting files remain.
Step 3: Install the older version
-
From one of the versions metioned above, download the installer (e.g.
CapCut_6.0.0.2291.exe
). -
Run the installer as administrator (right-click → “Run as administrator”).
-
Follow installation steps.
-
Launch CapCut and see if it opens normally.
Step 4: Prevent auto-update
To avoid the broken update being forced over your working version:
-
CapCut has “Check for updates” within settings, disable it.
-
In Windows, you can block the update process via firewall rules: block CapCut’s update URL or block CapCut’s update executable from network access.
-
Do not allow CapCut to auto-install updates; always back up your working version first.
Step 5: Test & monitor
-
Use CapCut for a while, especially with your typical workflows, to confirm stability.
-
Avoid using features that might rely on components introduced in the newer versions (they might break).
-
Keep an eye on our community forum or CapCut release notes to see when the fix for the buggy update, then you can consider upgrading again.
