I have been ( and still am ) working on a video project that required heavy use on the fade-in and fade-out animation. A few days ago, the animation was still there but when I came back to the app to make amendments on the same project, the animation option for fade-in and fade-out is gone? Please justify this as this animation has been the most useful out of all the other animations.
Hi,
The fade-in/fade-out animation is one of the most fundamental and commonly used animations in video editing, so its disappearance is definitely unexpected.
Here are the most likely reasons and troubleshooting steps you can try:
Possible Reasons for the Missing Animation:
-
App Update & UI Change: This is the most common reason. CapCut frequently updates its interface and features. It is possible the fade animation hasn't been removed, but rather moved to a different section or renamed.
- Check Different Categories: Look carefully within the "Animations" tab (both "In" and "Out"). Sometimes features get recategorized under headings like "Basic," "Simple," or similar.
- Check Transitions: While fade-in/out is usually an animation applied to the start/end of a single clip, sometimes basic fades are also integrated into the "Transitions" section meant for joining two clips. Check there just in case.
- Check Clip Properties Directly: You can try to adjust opacity directly on the timeline clip itself, with keyframes or handles at the very beginning or end of the clip, achieving a fade effect without going into the main animation menu. See if there are new controls directly on the clip in the timeline.
- Switched to a Different Clip Type: Fade-In/Fade-Out options are sometimes only available on video clips, photo clips, or text overlays — not all types. If you’re selecting an audio file, sticker, or transition, those may not show fade animations.
-
Temporary Bug or Glitch: CapCut can have temporary bugs introduced with updates or specific interactions. The animation might still be there, but a glitch is preventing it from showing up correctly in your app or specifically in your project.
-
Specific Project Glitch: Sometimes, project files can become slightly corrupted, leading to weird behavior with specific features.
-
Outdated App Version: Although less likely to remove a feature, running an older version might sometimes lead to unexpected behavior or incompatibility if CapCut's backend systems have changed.
- Effect or Filter Conflict: Some filters, effects, or templates can override the default animation options. Try removing those temporarily to check.
- Device/App Sync Issue: If you're switching between devices (e.g., phone ↔ PC), or editing the project offline, the app might not fully sync the features used.
- CapCut App Region or Language Change: CapCut restricts or changes feature availability based on region. A language or region setting change might cause tools to vanish.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Restart the App: Close CapCut completely (force close if necessary) and reopen it. Sometimes this clears temporary glitches.
- Restart Your Device: Turn your phone or computer completely off and then back on again.
- Check You're Tapping the Right Layer/Clip
- Tap a clip that previously had the fade-in/fade-out applied.
- Make sure you’re in the “Animation” tab → “In” or “Out”.
- Look for "Fade In" or "Fade Out" options again.
- Thoroughly Check the Animation Menus: As mentioned above, carefully explore all categories under Animations (In, Out, Combo) and look for anything named "Fade," "Dissolve," "Opacity," or similar basic terms. Pay close attention to the "Basic" or default sections.
- Check for CapCut Updates: Go to your App Store (iOS), Google Play Store (Android), or the CapCut website (Desktop) and see if there's an update available for CapCut. Install it if there is, as updates often contain bug fixes.
- Test in a New Project: Create a brand new, simple project. Add a photo or a short video clip. Select it and go to the Animations menu. Are the fade-in/fade-out options available in this new project?
- If YES: The issue might be with your specific existing project file. You might need to re-add the fades or potentially copy your content to a new project.
- If NO: The issue is likely with the app installation itself (either a bug or a UI change you haven't located yet).
- Clear Cache (Mobile): If you're on mobile, you can try clearing the CapCut app's cache (be careful not to clear data unless you have backups, as this might delete projects not saved to the cloud). The steps vary slightly between Android and iOS.
- Reinstall CapCut (Last Resort): Before doing this, ensure your projects are backed up (e.g., saved to CapCut Cloud or exported). Uninstalling and reinstalling the app can sometimes resolve persistent bugs.
Workaround If It’s Still Missing
If you're desperate for fade-in/out and it still won’t appear, use keyframes and opacity:
-
Select your clip.
-
Go to the start of the clip → Add a keyframe.
-
Set opacity to 0%.
-
Move a few frames ahead → Add another keyframe.
-
Set opacity to 100% → You've created a manual fade-in.
-
Do the reverse at the end for fade-out.
If none of these steps work, the best course of action is to report the issue directly to CapCut support by writing an email to [email protected]. Provide details about your device, app version, and the exact problem.
It's highly unlikely CapCut would permanently remove such a basic and essential animation without providing an alternative way to achieve the same effect. Hopefully, it's just been moved or is a temporary bug that will be fixed soon.
