Hi,

Many Android CapCut users report timeline freezing issues, especially after recent updates. Here's a full troubleshooting guide you can try before uninstalling and reinstalling again:

Quick fixes to try first

  1. Force Stop and Clear Cache (not data)

    • Go to Settings > Apps > CapCut > Force Stop

    • Then go to Storage > Clear Cache

    • Restart CapCut.

  2. Close Background Apps

    • CapCut can lag or freeze if other apps are eating up RAM. Swipe away other apps and retry.

  3. Turn Off Hardware Decoding

    • Open CapCut > tap your profile icon > go to Settings > disable Hardware decoding.

    • This reduces freezing.

  4. Use Lower Preview Quality

    • Inside a project, tap the preview area > select "Preview Quality" > choose Low.

    • This eases the load on your phone.

Deeper fixes for persistent freezing

  1. Free Up Storage Space

    • Ensure you have at least 3–5 GB of free space.

    • CapCut uses a lot of temporary files while editing.

    • Delete unnecessary photos, videos, apps, and files from your device.

    • Consider moving media to an SD card (if your phone supports it) or cloud storage.

    • CapCut recommends at least 1 GB of free storage.

  2. Avoid Editing from SD Card

    • Always move media files to internal storage before importing to CapCut. SD cards often cause lag or timeline freezing.

  3. Update CapCut

    • Check on Google Play Store if an update is available. Sometimes CapCut patch issues within days.

  4. Try an Older Version (if freezing started after update)

  5. Reboot Phone into Safe Mode

    • Boot into Safe Mode (long-press Power > then long-press "Power Off" > tap Safe Mode).

    • Open CapCut in Safe Mode — if it works well, another app might be conflicting.

Why CapCut freezes (common reasons):

  • Insufficient Device Resources: CapCut requires a good amount of RAM and storage space to run smoothly, especially with complex projects or high-resolution videos. If your phone is low on either, it can cause freezing.

  • Corrupted or Outdated App Data: Over time, app cache and data can become corrupted, leading to glitches and performance issues.

  • Outdated CapCut Version: Bugs are often fixed in new updates. If you're not on the latest version, you might be experiencing a known issue.

  • Device Incompatibility: While CapCut is widely compatible, very old devices or those with limited specs might struggle to keep up.

  • Large Project Size/Complexity: Editing very long videos, using many layers, effects, or high-resolution footage can push your phone's limits.

  • Background Apps: Having many other apps running in the background can consume RAM and CPU, leaving less for CapCut.

  • Network Issues (less common for timeline, but can affect features): While less likely to freeze the timeline directly, poor internet can affect loading of online resources (filters, music, etc.) which might contribute to overall sluggishness.

Other solutions to try (without daily reinstallation):

  1. Clear CapCut's Data (Use with Caution - Backup First!):

    • If clearing the cache doesn't work, you can try "Clear Data." However, be aware that this will delete all your drafts and projects within CapCut.

    • Before doing this, make sure to back up any important projects if CapCut offers a cloud backup option, or export them if possible.

    • Go to Settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage.

    • Tap on Clear Data (or "Clear Storage").

  2. Update Your Android Operating System:

    • Ensure your phone's Android OS is up to date. Go to Settings > System > Software update (or similar). An outdated OS can sometimes cause app compatibility issues.

  3. Reduce Project Complexity/Optimize Settings (within CapCut):

    • Lower Playback Quality: In CapCut's settings, you will find an option to reduce the preview quality. This can make editing smoother, especially with demanding projects.

    • Proxy Editing: This is where you work with lower-resolution versions of your clips, and the full-resolution files are used for export.

    • Delete Old Projects: If you have many old CapCut projects, deleting completed or unnecessary ones can free up space and potentially improve performance.

  4. Check for Device Overheating:

    • If your phone gets very hot while using CapCut, it might be throttling performance to prevent damage, leading to freezing. Give your phone a break and let it cool down.

  5. Consider Device Compatibility:

    • While not ideal, if you've tried everything and the problem persists, and your phone is an older model, it might be struggling to meet CapCut's demands.

Device-specific notes

  • Which phone are you using? Some Xiaomi, Vivo, and Realme models have aggressive battery savers that can mess with CapCut.

  • You may need to whitelist CapCut in your battery/performance settings.

Alternative temporary workaround

If you must reinstall every day:

  • Use "App Cloner" or "Dual Apps" feature to clone CapCut.

  • This sometimes bypasses whatever data corruption is causing the freeze — at least temporarily.

To avoid daily reinstallation, focus on:

  • Regularly clearing CapCut's cache.

  • Keeping your phone's storage relatively free.

  • Updating the app and your OS.

Hopefully, one or a combination of these solutions will help you get CapCut working smoothly without the constant hassle of reinstalling.
