I spent time last night making an edit, and when I went to save the video it told me I was using Standard Features, and asked me to join standard so that I could continue to use these effects.
I had pro, but switched to standard so that I would be able to download my video. I even paid for the yearly subscription to avoid further issues. And it's still telling me that I an using Standard Features and not letting me download the video. When i click to 'join standard' it tells me i'm already subscribed to standard.
Can someone please explain to me how to fix this? I'm a little angry i've spent money on something that I can't even download at this point?
Hi,
This is a CapCut subscription recognition bug where basically, the app knows you have paid for Standard, but your current editing project is still “locked” under the licensing rules of Pro, so it’s asking you to rejoin something you already have.
Here is how you can fix it without losing your work:
1. Check which account you are logged into
-
Sometimes subscriptions get tied to a different login (Apple ID, Google account, TikTok, or CapCut account).
-
Go to Me/Profile → Settings → Account in CapCut and confirm you’re on the same account you used to buy Standard.
-
If you paid via Apple/Google, make sure you are signed in with the same App Store or Play Store account.
2. Restore your purchase
-
In CapCut, go to Settings → Restore Purchase (on mobile) or Settings → Subscription (on PC/Mac) and tap it.
-
This forces CapCut to recheck your subscription status with Apple/Google/TikTok servers.
3. Reopen the project after restoring
-
Close the project completely (not just the app window — actually exit CapCut).
-
Reopen CapCut, go to Drafts, and open your edit.
-
Sometimes the “join standard” overlay only disappears after reloading the project with a refreshed license check.
4. Duplicate the project and retry
-
In Drafts, click the three dots → Duplicate.
-
Open the duplicate and try exporting.
-
This can reset effect-licensing tags that were stuck.
5. Check if your edit contains Pro-only assets
-
If your original project used a Pro-only effect/template before you downgraded to Standard, CapCut will still flag it.
-
You may need to replace those effects with Standard-friendly ones for it to export without a Pro subscription.
6. If still stuck — force a subscription resync
-
Log out of CapCut → Restart device → Log back in → Restore Purchase again.
-
On mobile, also try deleting CapCut’s cache (Settings → Clear Cache) — not deleting the app, so you don’t lose drafts.
Here is how you can check if your edit still contains Pro-only assets that are keeping it locked, even though you now have Standard:
Step 1 – Reopen your project and look for warning icons
-
In CapCut, open the project.
-
Go through each clip on the timeline.
-
If a clip, overlay, effect, or sticker has a “Pro” or diamond icon on it, that means it’s still tied to Pro licensing.
Step 2 – Check these specific areas
-
Video Effects
-
Open Effects → Video Effects.
-
If you see a yellow diamond (Pro) next to the applied effect, it’s not part of Standard.
-
Replace it with a Standard effect (no diamond) to remove the restriction.
-
-
Text Styles & Animations
-
Go to your text layers → tap Style or Animation.
-
Look for any Pro icons and swap to a Standard alternative.
-
-
Stickers & Overlays
-
Some stickers and overlays are Pro-only.
-
Even if you only used one briefly, it can block the export.
-
-
Templates
-
If the project was started from a Pro template, even replacing all media sometimes keeps the project flagged.
-
Best fix: manually recreate the layout in a new project.
-
-
Transitions
-
A few fancy transitions are Pro-only.
-
Swap them with Standard transitions.
-
-
Filters
-
Some color filters are exclusive to Pro.
-
If applied, switch to a Standard filter.
-
Step 3 – Test export after removing/replacing Pro assets
-
After replacing all Pro items, try exporting again.
-
If it still asks you to “Join Standard” despite you already having it, duplicate the project and export the duplicate.
Sometimes the project is “tagged” as Pro because it used Pro features at some point, even if you removed them. In that case, the duplicate project trick usually clears the tag.
