Text to speech will not generate it quit working 9am this morning every time I open text to speech get a could not load history error then when I try and generate I get a could not generate message
Hi,
CapCut’s Text-to-Speech feature is having a service-side or app-side issue, and based on your timing quit working 9 AM this morning, it’s not just you these things sometimes happen if ByteDance’s servers for that feature are under maintenance or having an outage.
While a definitive fix from CapCut hasn't been announced, here are some troubleshooting steps that have worked:
1. Check if it’s a temporary server outage
-
Go to CapCut’s official X/Twitter or TikTok’s status page — if TTS is down globally, there will be a reporting about it.
-
Sometimes these outages only last a few hours.
2. Try logging out and back in
-
Sign out of your CapCut account, close the app completely, and sign back in.
-
This can refresh your account session and re-sync with the TTS server.
3. Clear CapCut cache (on PC or mobile)
-
PC: Settings → Storage → Clear Cache.
-
Mobile: Settings → Apps → CapCut → Storage → Clear Cache (don’t clear data unless you’ve backed up projects to the cloud).
- On Android: Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage, then select "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data."
- On iOS: Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, find CapCut, and choose "Offload App" or "Delete App."
4. Switch network
- CapCut's Text-to-Speech is a cloud-based feature, so a stable internet connection is crucial.
-
Move from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or vice versa) — CapCut sometimes blocks TTS on slow or unstable connections.
-
If you use a VPN, turn it off — TTS may be region-restricted.
5. Test with a different account or device
-
If TTS works on another account or device, the problem may be account-specific rather than app-wide.
6. Check for Special Characters in Your Text
- Special characters (like colons, semicolons, or certain symbols) or inconsistent paragraph spacing can cause the "could not generate" error. Try simplifying your text and removing any unusual characters.
7. Adjust Audio Settings
- In some cases, issues with the video's audio track can affect the Text-to-Speech function. Try boosting the volume of the original audio or, if you're using a blank audio track, ensure it's not completely silent.
8. Reinstall (last resort)
-
Back up all cloud projects first.
-
Uninstall and reinstall CapCut, then log in again.
-
This will give you the latest TTS engine files and settings.
9. Try an older version of the App:
- Rolling back to a previous version of CapCut can fix the issues. This is a more advanced troubleshooting step and should be done with caution. You would need to find a trusted source for an older APK (for Android) or installation file. You can find it from here.
If all of the above fail
Given it stopped for you suddenly this morning, it’s possible CapCut has a temporary TTS outage or restricted your region’s access. In that case, it will likely return on its own once the service is restored.
