Hi guys,
I'm I dumb or something really important is missing?
Why can't we have a search option or alphabetical order of templates in capcut? And I'm talking about every template (animations, text, effect, transition, filters.
The only available search option is in the effect section.
Am I missing something?
Do you thinki they want it to be like this on purpose?
The software is great, but every time I need to look for a template I have to search for hours.
Maybe I do have to change editing software...
Thanks for you time
Hi,
You are not dumb at all and your frustration is completely valid, and you are definitely not the only one who's noticed this issue in CapCut.
Here's the reality:
CapCut (both mobile and desktop) does not offer a consistent or complete search or sort system for all template categories like:
-
Text templates
-
Animations
-
Transitions
-
Filters
-
Effects (only this section sometimes has a search bar)
There is no alphabetical order or advanced filter system for most of these either. You are expected to scroll manually and remember where things are.
Many CapCut users express frustration with the process of finding specific templates, animations, text effects, transitions, and filters, noting a lack of alphabetical order and a comprehensive search function across all categories.
CapCut does employ categorization to organize its vast library of creative assets. Templates are often grouped by type, theme, or trending status (e.g., Transitions might have categories like "Basic," "Camera," "Effect"). Similarly, text effects, filters, and animations are typically found within their respective editing sections, often further divided into categories.
You're asking the right questions:
“Do you think they want it to be like this on purpose?”
Honestly? It might be by design, even if it's frustrating:
-
CapCut wants to promote trending or popular templates rather than let you find old ones easily.
-
This helps them push new features, seasonal effects, or partner content to the top.
- Categorization as primary Organization: The developers may intend for users to find assets primarily by Browse categories rather than relying on alphabetical lists.
-
It also subtly encourages users to keep browsing, which keeps engagement high.
- Development Priorities: Implementing a universal search and consistent alphabetical sorting across all asset types and platforms could be a complex technical undertaking that is not currently a top development priority.
- User Interface Design: The current interface might be designed with a different user flow in mind, perhaps prioritizing visual Browse over text-based searching or alphabetical lists for certain asset types.
But it comes at a cost: creative workflow suffers.
While a search function exists within CapCut, its scope and placement can vary. There is a search bar specifically within the dedicated "Templates" section of both the mobile and desktop versions, allowing users to search for templates using keywords.
However, this search primarily applies to the user-created or featured templates found in that specific area. Your observation that a search option is present in the "Effects" section is also accurate.
What seems to be less consistently available or effective is a universal search bar that spans all creative assets, including animations, text effects, transitions, and filters across the entire application, or the ability to sort these by alphabetical order within their categories.
So what are your options?
-
Workarounds in CapCut:
-
Create a “favorites” or “go-to” project where you save your most-used templates.
-
Screenshot your favorite transitions/texts and keep a reference folder.
-
Use naming conventions for your own custom elements to find them faster.
-
-
Switch to a more pro-level editor like:
-
Adobe Premiere Pro (best for heavy customization and searchability)
-
DaVinci Resolve (free and powerful, but with a steeper learning curve)
-
Final Cut Pro (if you're on Mac)
-
-
Submit feedback to CapCut:
-
You can do this in the app under Settings → Feedback or write an email to [email protected]. The more people ask for better sorting/search, the higher chance they’ll add it.
-
Final thought:
You are not missing anything. CapCut is awesome for speed and AI tools, but the lack of basic template organization is a real flaw. If it is killing your workflow, exploring alternatives is 100% reasonable.
While CapCut is a powerful and popular editing tool, particularly known for its ease of use and integration with platforms like TikTok, the difficulty in efficiently finding specific creative assets like animations, text effects, transitions, and filters through sorting or a comprehensive search function is a notable limitation experienced by many users.
If your workflow heavily relies on quickly accessing a wide variety of precisely named assets, this lack of functionality could indeed impact your editing efficiency and might be a factor to consider when evaluating different editing software options.
