I'm having a delay while I edit with my video and audio. The audio doesn't sync properly to the video, so when I edit it's completely buged and all the cuts are wrong. It seem spoorly edited, but it's just capcut not working. I have capcut pro and it has been happening for a couple of weeks now. If it's not fixed, i'll cancel my subscription and look for another video editor.
Hi,
When you are paying for CapCut Pro you expect smooth performance. Here are some steps to help fix or reduce the audio/video sync delay while editing in CapCut:
Common causes of Audio/Video desync and lag in CapCut:
- Insufficient Device Resources: CapCut video editing is demanding. If your computer or phone has low RAM or an older processor, it might struggle to keep up, leading to lag and sync issues.
- Outdated CapCut Version: Bugs are often fixed in updates. An outdated app can have compatibility issues.
- Heavy Projects: Large files, multiple layers, complex effects, and high-resolution videos (like 4K) can overload CapCut.
- File Corruption: Sometimes, the original video or audio files can be corrupted, causing playback problems.
- Incorrect Frame Rate: Mismatched frame rates between audio and video can lead to desync.
- Cache Build-up: Accumulated cache data can slow down the app.
- Bluetooth Audio Delay: If you're using Bluetooth headphones, there can be an inherent delay between the audio and video, which might be amplified by CapCut's processing.
Quick fixes first
-
Close Background Apps
Make sure no other heavy apps (browsers, editing tools, etc.) are running in the background, especially if you’re using a PC or laptop with limited RAM. -
Lower Preview Quality
In CapCut (PC or mobile), try reducing the preview resolution to make editing smoother:-
Click the gear icon (settings) near the preview window.
-
Set preview quality to Low or Medium — it doesn’t affect export quality.
-
-
Enable “Performance Mode”
CapCut PC has a “Performance Mode” that reduces load by simplifying previews.-
Go to Settings > Performance and turn it ON.
-
-
Check Hardware Acceleration (PC Only)
-
Go to Settings > Performance
-
Try toggling hardware acceleration ON (or OFF if it’s already on) to see if it improves sync.
-
Clear cache (CapCut Mobile or PC)
Too much cache or project clutter can cause lag.
-
On PC:
Settings > Cache > Clear Cache
-
On Mobile (iPhone):
-
Go to CapCut App > Settings > Clear Cache
-
Restart the app
-
Optimize your project
-
Avoid using too many overlays/stickers/effects at once — they cause lag.
-
Pre-render high-effort sequences:
-
Export a short section with effects and re-import it to reduce load during editing.
-
- Lower Resolution: If you're working with very high-resolution footage (e.g., 4K), try converting it to a lower resolution (e.g., 1080p) before importing into CapCut for editing. You can then export in a higher resolution if needed.
- Limit Layers and Effects: Too many layers, complex transitions, and effects can significantly strain your system. Try simplifying your project.
- Split Large Projects: If your video is very long, consider breaking it into smaller segments, editing them separately, and then combining them.
Check device resources:
- Close background apps: Close any other applications running in the background while you're editing in CapCut to free up RAM and CPU.
- Free up storage: Ensure you have ample free storage space on your device. Low storage can lead to performance issues.
- Hardware check: If you are on an older device, it might genuinely be struggling with video editing. Consider editing on a more powerful computer if available.
Extract Audio and Re-sync Manually:
- This is a common workaround. In CapCut, you can often "extract audio" from a video clip. This separates the audio track from the video.
- Once extracted, you can then manually adjust the audio track's position (drag it left or right) to align it perfectly with the video. This might require some trial and error.
- For significant delays (e.g., 1 second), split the extracted audio and remove the problematic section, then drag the rest to sync.
Export and Re-import (as a workaround):
- Sometimes, the desync is only in the preview, but the exported video is fine. Try exporting a small section of your project to see if the problem persists in the final output.
- If the export is still desynced, you might have to export the entire video, then re-import it into a new CapCut project to make final cuts and adjustments if the desync is consistent. This is a bit of a hassle but can resolve the issue in some cases.
Check original files:
- Play your original video and audio files outside of CapCut (e.g., in a media player). Do they sync correctly there? If not, the issue might be with your source files, not CapCut.
- Ensure the frame rate of your video and audio sources are compatible.
Avoid Bluetooth Headphones (During Editing):
- If you're using Bluetooth headphones, try editing with wired headphones or your device's built-in speakers. The inherent latency in Bluetooth audio can make precise syncing difficult during editing.
As a last resort: Reinstall CapCut
Since you already have CapCut Pro, reinstalling won’t remove your subscription, and your cloud projects will remain safe if synced with your CapCut account.
If the problem persists:
- Contact CapCut customer support: Since you have CapCut Pro, you should have access to priority customer support. Email them at [email protected]. Provide them with detailed information about your device, CapCut version, and the specific issues you're facing. They might have more specific solutions or be able to identify a bug.
- Consider alternatives: If, after trying all these steps and contacting support, the issue remains unresolved and is significantly hindering your work, then canceling your subscription and exploring other video editing software might be the best course of action. Some popular alternatives include:
-
DaVinci Resolve (Free + Pro) – More powerful, but has a learning curve
-
VN Video Editor (Free) – Simple and great for mobile
-
Filmora – Easier than Premiere but still powerful
-
Adobe Premiere Rush – Cross-platform and simple for social content
Hopefully, one of these solutions helps you get back to smooth editing.
