The template (the one I have attached) that I used for dozens of videos has suddenly disappeared from both the caption templates and the text effects. I can't even access it through old projects. What do I do? I feel like it's a part of my videos' esthetic at this point and, more importantly, it was really useful in the editing process. What can I do? Has it been removed from Capcut? Not cool at all if so.
Hi,
Losing a go-to caption template in CapCut can throw off your whole editing workflow, especially if it’s a core part of your video style. Here’s what’s happening and what you can do:
Why the template disappeared
-
CapCut regularly updates templates and text effects. Some older ones get replaced or removed from the library.
-
Region restrictions. Certain caption/text effects are available only in specific countries, so after an update it might not show up in your area anymore.
-
Cache/project dependency. If it was a preloaded template, it may not reload properly after updates, and sometimes even old projects can’t recall it if it’s been fully deprecated.
What you can do
-
Check for updates
Make sure CapCut (PC/Mac or mobile) is updated as sometimes missing templates reappear after refreshing the library. -
Search under different categories
CapCut occasionally moves templates from “Captions” to “Text Effects” or “Styles.” Look carefully in both. -
Check team/cloud templates
If you’ve ever saved it to your CapCut cloud or team space, it may still be retrievable there. -
Recreate the style manually
From your screenshot:-
White bold text + highlighted keyword in yellow
-
Black semi-transparent rectangle behind
You can rebuild this with basic text + background + color styling and then save it as your own preset, so you’re not dependent on CapCut keeping it.
-
-
Use an old project as a template
If you still have at least one project where the style is intact:-
Open that project, copy the text layer, and save it as a custom template (CapCut allows saving text styles).
-
-
Alternative workaround
If CapCut fully removed it:-
Create your own version in a graphics app (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, Figma) and import as overlay.
-
This way, your branding is safe from future removals.
-
If you still have a project where that caption style is showing, here’s how you can extract it and save it as a reusable custom preset in CapCut (works on PC and mobile):
On CapCut PC / Mac
-
Open the old project where the caption style is intact.
-
Click the text layer (the one with your styled caption).
-
In the right-hand panel (Text Properties), check the style settings (font, size, background, color, highlight).
-
Right-click the text box on the timeline and select "Save as Text Template" (or click the star icon in the text settings panel).
-
This adds it to your Custom text templates library.
-
-
Next time, just go to Text → Templates → Custom and drag it into any new project.
On CapCut Mobile (iOS/Android)
-
Open the project where the styled caption exists.
-
Tap the text clip to select it.
-
At the bottom, tap Style (or Edit → Style/Effects depending on version).
-
You’ll see a Save as Style / Favorite option (usually a star or heart icon).
-
Tap it, and the caption style gets saved under Favorites.
-
-
In future projects, go to Text → Style → Favorites and apply it instantly.
If you want to be extra safe:
-
Duplicate the old project and keep it as a “Style Bank” project where you store all your favorite text/caption effects.
-
That way, even if CapCut removes them from the library again, you’ll always have a backup.
Based on your screenshot, here is how you can recreate that caption style manually in CapCut and then save it as your own reusable preset:
Caption Style Breakdown
-
Font: Bold Sans Serif (CapCut’s built-in Montserrat or Poppins Bold works very close).
-
Font Size: Medium-large (adjust to fit screen, but make sure it’s thick enough to stand out).
-
Text Color:
-
Main text: White (#FFFFFF)
-
Highlighted word (“architecture” in your example): Yellow/Orange (#FFB800)
-
-
Background:
-
Black rectangle behind text, semi-transparent (Opacity ~70%).
-
Rounded edges if available.
-
-
Shadow/Stroke: None (kept clean).
Steps to Recreate in CapCut (PC or Mobile)
-
Add Text
-
Insert a text box → type your caption.
-
-
Split Highlighted Word
-
Example: the city’s → normal text
-
architecture → duplicate text, change its color to yellow
-
is stunning → normal text again
-
Place them together to look seamless.
-
-
Add Background
-
Select the text layer → enable Background (or Canvas → Background).
-
Choose Black and reduce opacity to around 65–70%.
-
-
Adjust Layout
-
Center-align text.
-
Keep background covering entire caption length.
-
-
Save as Preset
-
On PC/Mac → Right-click → Save as Text Template.
-
On Mobile → Tap Style → Favorite (star icon).
-
Instead of re-splitting words every time:
-
Save the whole text box with the yellow highlight already inside (just edit the word each time).
-
This makes it behave exactly like your old template.
