Hello I subcribed to capcut pro under the impression I could stop the subscription at any moment. I only needed it for a school project for a month, and when I tried to cancel, I realized there was actually no way of doing so. I followed tutorials on YouTube and followed the steps recommended by people in the CapCut community, etc. However, when I press 'Manage Auto Renewal,' nothing shows up. I even tried cancelling my subscription directly from the website to no avail. This is lowkey theft, locking me into a subscription I can't get out of with no possibility of contacting capcut directly. Someone please let me know what I should do!!
Hi,
Here is a step-by-step guide to help you cancel CapCut Pro, depending on how you subscribed (there are a few different routes):
1. Identify where you subscribed:
The most important factor in canceling is where you originally purchased the CapCut Pro subscription.
CapCut Pro subscriptions can be made through:
-
Apple App Store (iPhone/iPad)
-
Google Play Store (Android)
-
CapCut Website (via credit/debit card or PayPal)
-
If you subscribed through the CapCut App on your iPhone/iPad (iOS):
- Go to Settings on your device.
- Click on your Apple ID (your name) at the top.
- Clcik on Subscriptions.
- Find CapCut in the list.
- Tap on it and then tap Cancel Subscription.
- Even if it says "Manage Auto Renewal" and nothing shows up in the CapCut app itself, the iOS Subscription settings are the primary place to manage it for Apple users.
-
If you subscribed through the CapCut App on your Android device:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Click your profile icon (top right corner).
- Click Payments & subscriptions.
- Click Subscriptions.
- Find CapCut in the list.
- Tap on it and then tap Cancel subscription.
- Similar to iOS, the Google Play Store is the master control for Android subscriptions.
-
If you subscribed directly on the CapCut Website (desktop/web):
- Go to the CapCut website and log in.
- Click on your profile icon (top right) > Go to "Billing" or "Account Settings".
- Under Manage Auto Renewal, you should see your plan and the ability to cancel.
- If nothing shows up, it could mean:
- The subscription is linked to another login method (Apple ID, Google, TikTok, Facebook, etc.)
- There's a glitch — try using incognito mode or switching browsers.
- If the "Disable auto renewal" button is not appearing or working correctly on the website, then proceed to the next step.
2. Check Your Bank/Email for Clues:
-
Search your inbox for “CapCut”, “Bytedance”, or “App Store/Google Play”.
-
If you see a receipt, check who charged you (Apple, Google, or CapCut directly via Stripe/PayPal).
3. Contact CapCut customer support directly:
Since the in-app and website options aren't working, you need to reach out to CapCut customer support. The support email for CapCut is:
When you email them, include the following information:
- Your CapCut account ID/username: This is essential for them to locate your subscription.
- The email address associated with your CapCut account.
- Proof of purchase: This could be a screenshot of your subscription from your Apple/Google Play subscriptions, or a transaction ID from your bank statement/payment provider.
- A clear description of the problem: Explain that you've tried canceling via all available methods (in-app, website, store settings) and the "Manage Auto Renewal" option isn't working. State that you only needed the subscription for a month and wish to cancel immediately.
- Request a refund: Since you tried to cancel and couldn't, you have a strong case for a refund of any charges beyond your initial intended month.
4. Dispute the Charge with your Bank/Payment Provider (If all else fails):
If CapCut support doesn't respond or refuses to cancel and refund, your final recourse is to dispute the charge with your bank or credit card company.
- Explain to them that you subscribed for a service, attempted to cancel within a reasonable timeframe, but were unable to do so due to the merchant's faulty cancellation process.
- Provide all documentation you have (screenshots of attempts to cancel, emails to CapCut support, etc.).
- Banks often side with users in cases of unclear or locked-in subscription models, especially if there’s no transparent way to cancel.
Why this happens and what to watch out for:
- Subscription Management: Many apps including CapCut route their subscriptions through the app store (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) rather than handling them entirely internally. This is often where you have the most control. If "Manage Auto Renewal" isn't showing anything within the CapCut app, it strongly suggests the subscription is managed externally.
We understand your frustration, but by systematically trying these steps and documenting your attempts, you should be able to resolve this.
