Hi CapCut Support/Community,I’m experiencing an issue with auto captioning in CapCut Pro (version 6.6.0) on my Windows PC. Midway through my video, captions become unreadable, flashing briefly at the same point in the timeline. Changing caption styles doesn’t help.Details:

  • The issue started after an upgrade that I believe included beta features (accidentally enabled, version number was unusual, not 6.6.0).
  • Other bugs appeared initially but have resolved; only captioning remains an issue.
  • CapCut worked perfectly before the upgrade.

Troubleshooting Tried:

  • Cleared cache and restarted PC.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled 6.6.0 from the official website.
  • Lowered playback resolution and confirmed sufficient RAM.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any fixes or workarounds? Appreciate any help from the community or support team! Thanks,
Steve

Hi,

Thanks for providing detailed information this sounds like a problematic issue, especially since auto captions are crucial for your edits. Based on your description, the glitch is most likely a leftover from the earlier beta build, especially if you had enabled experimental features accidentally.

Possible Causes:

  1. Corrupted User Profile/Settings: Even a clean reinstall might not completely remove all user-specific settings files. CapCut might be loading old, corrupted configuration data.

  2. Persistent Beta feature glitch: If the beta feature somehow "stuck" even after reinstalling the stable version, it could be causing the captioning issue. This is less common but not impossible.

  3. Driver conflict: While you mentioned sufficient RAM and lowering resolution, there could be a subtle conflict with your graphics card drivers that only manifests with CapCut's captioning rendering.

  4. Specific project corruption: Though you didn't mention if this happens across all projects or just one, if it's limited to a single project, that project file might be corrupted.

Here’s a step-by-step approach to fully clean out corrupted data and resolve the flashing/unreadable caption bug:

Step-by-Step fix for CapCut caption glitch (Windows PC)

1. Completely Uninstall CapCut — Including Leftover AppData

Standard uninstalls leave behind corrupted configuration files. Here's how to remove them:

  • Go to "Add or remove programs" in Windows settings and uninstall CapCut.

  • Delete Residual Files: After uninstalling, manually check and delete any remaining CapCut folders in these locations (replace YourUsername with your actual Windows username):
    • C:\Program Files\ByteDance\CapCut (or C:\Program Files (x86)\ByteDance\CapCut)

    • C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\CapCut

    • C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\CapCut

    • C:\ProgramData\CapCut (You might need to enable "Show hidden files" in File Explorer options to see AppData and ProgramData folders).

  • Clear Registry Entries: This is more advanced and carries a slight risk if done incorrectly.
    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.

    • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and look for any "CapCut" or "ByteDance" entries. Right-click and delete them.

    • Do the same under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE.

    • Important: Before deleting anything in the registry, it's highly recommended to create a backup of your registry (File > Export).

  • Empty Recycle Bin.
  • Restart your PC.

2. Reinstall a Clean Stable Version (not Beta)

You mentioned 6.6.0 make sure you’re downloading only from here.

If you still suspect beta remnants:

  • Consider an officially distributed older stable version of CapCut that you know worked perfectly before.
  • Try an older stable version (e.g., 6.5.0 or 6.4.0) from a trusted archive like UptoDown.

3. Turn off Beta features

  1. Open CapCut.

  2. Go to Settings → Preferences → Advanced.

  3. If you see “Enable Experimental Features” or “Beta Functions” — turn them OFF.

  4. Restart CapCut again.

4. Re-Generate Captions

Once CapCut is clean and running properly:

  1. Delete old captions from the timeline.

  2. Re-run Auto Captions:

    • Ensure you're choosing the correct language.

    • Do not click away during generation.

  3. Preview the timeline again — if captions flash at the same point, check if:

    • There’s a clip split or transition at that time.

    • Multiple overlapping caption layers exist (sometimes happens if auto captions were applied more than once).

Optional Checks:

  • GPU Drivers: Update your graphics drivers, especially if you’re using NVIDIA or AMD.

  • Text Effects Bug: If a specific caption animation or style is corrupted, test with “None” or basic styles.

  • Project Bug: Try creating a new project and re-import the same video. Generate captions again to rule out project-specific corruption.

Other solutions to try:

  • Update/Rollback Graphics Drivers:

    • Update: Go to your graphics card manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the very latest drivers for your specific GPU model. Perform a clean installation of the drivers (usually an option during the installer).
    • Rollback (If Update Fails): If updating doesn't help or makes things worse, you can try rolling back your graphics drivers to an earlier stable version that you know worked with CapCut before the issue started. You can do this through Device Manager: Right-click Start > Device Manager > Display adapters > Right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver (if available).
  • Test with a New, Simple Project:
    • Create a completely new, very short project in CapCut with just a few simple video clips and try auto-captioning it. This helps determine if the issue is project-specific or a general CapCut problem.
  • Check for Windows Updates:
    • Ensure your Windows operating system is fully up to date. Sometimes, underlying system components can affect application performance. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Regarding the "unusual" beta version number: This is a strong indicator that something went awry during that specific update. It's possible that even after "reinstalling" the stable version, some remnants of the beta build are still causing conflicts, especially if they modified core rendering components.

Still Not Working?

Let us know:

  • If the captions flash at the same timestamp every time

  • If they disappear in both preview and exported video

  • If you want to try a portable version of CapCut that doesn’t interfere with registry files

If all else fail try out free CapCut alternatives for auto captioning that can be imported back into CapCut (.srt or hardcoded).

Report the Bug to CapCut Development Team:

Since you've done extensive troubleshooting, it's crucial to report this bug directly to CapCut's development team. You can email them at [email protected].

Provide them with all the details you've given here, especially your suspicion about the beta feature and the exact version number you're using. The support team will have internal knowledge of similar issues or provide a specific fix.
