How to apply my presets to auto captions? I can't see this option in the menu on the left (as it is with text)

Hi,

You are right, applying presets to auto-captions in CapCut doesn't work exactly the same way as applying them to standard text boxes you add manually, where you might see presets listed directly in the initial text menu (often on the left when adding new text).

Here's how to apply your saved text presets to auto-captions:

  1. Generate Auto-Captions: First, go through the process of generating your auto-captions (Text -> Auto Captions).
  2. Select a Caption Box: Once the captions appear on your timeline (usually as a series of purple or distinct-colored boxes on a dedicated track), click on any one of the individual caption boxes on the timeline.
  3. Open the Editing Panel (Right Side): Selecting a caption box should open the detailed editing panel, usually located on the right side of the CapCut interface (not the left menu where you add new elements).
  4. Find the Presets Section: Within this right-hand editing panel, look for the usual text styling options (Font, Style, Effects, Animation, Bubble). You should see a section specifically labelled "Presets" or "Text Presets" here. This section will display your saved custom text styles.
  5. Select Your Preset: Click on the saved preset you want to apply.
  6. Apply to All (Crucial Step!): After selecting the preset, look carefully within the same right-hand panel. There should be a checkbox or a button explicitly labelled "Apply to all" or something similar (like "Batch Edit" or an icon indicating applying to the whole track). You MUST enable or click this option. If you don't, the preset will only be applied to the single caption box you initially selected.

The key difference is that you don't apply presets while generating the captions or from the main left-side menu. Instead, you generate the captions first, then select one of them on the timeline to open the specific caption editing panel on the right, find your presets there, and crucially, use the "Apply to all" function within that panel to style all the generated captions at once.

If you still don't see the "Presets" option in the right-hand panel after selecting a caption box, double-check:

  • That you have actually saved text presets previously.
  • That you have selected an auto-caption box on the timeline, not a different element.
  • Ensure your CapCut application (Desktop or Mobile) is updated to the latest version, as interfaces can sometimes change slightly.

Workaround: Copy & Paste Attributes from a Styled Text Layer

  • Create a Styled Text Layer: Manually add a text layer and apply your desired font, color, size, animation, and other styling.
  • Copy Attributes: Right-click on this styled text layer in the timeline and select “Copy Attributes”.
  • Apply to Auto Captions: Select all your auto-generated caption layers in the timeline, right-click, and choose “Paste Attributes”. This action will apply your custom styling to all selected captions.
  • Remove the Placeholder: Delete the initial styled text layer if it's no longer needed.

Alternative Approach: Use a Template Project

  • If you frequently use the same caption style, consider creating a template project:
  • Set Up a Template: Create a project with a styled caption that includes your preferred font, size, color, and animation.
  • Duplicate for New Projects: When starting a new video, duplicate this template project.
  • Add New Content: Import your new video into the duplicated project. The existing styled caption can serve as a reference or be copied to new captions.
  • This approach ensures consistency and saves time by reusing your preferred caption styles.

Currently, CapCut doesn't allow saving caption styles as reusable presets in the same way it does for regular text. Therefore, these workarounds are the most effective methods to apply consistent styling to auto-generated captions.
