Hi! I am working from the capcut desktop, here i made shared spaces but we cannot create a project directly from the space and have to download it locally. How can i create a new project within the space without having to download it every time someone wants to edit? I do already have pro.
Hi,
We understand what you are trying to achieve – true real-time, cloud-based collaboration directly within a CapCut Space, similar to how Google Docs works.
Unfortunately, as of now (April 2025), CapCut's Spaces feature on the desktop app doesn't support simultaneous, real-time editing directly within the cloud space.
Here is a breakdown of how CapCut Spaces currently function for collaboration, even with a Pro account:
- Spaces as Shared Storage & Syncing: Think of CapCut Spaces primarily as a sophisticated shared folder or cloud drive specifically for your CapCut projects and assets.
- Project Files (.cap): When you put a project into a Space, you are essentially uploading the project file (
.cap
file) and its associated media (if you choose to back them up). - Editing is Still Local: To edit that project, a team member (including yourself) generally needs to:
- Ensure their local CapCut app is synced with the Space.
- Open the project from the Space. CapCut essentially downloads or caches the necessary files locally for the editing session.
- Make edits on their local machine using the CapCut desktop application.
- Save the project. These changes are then synced back to the Space, updating the project file stored there.
- No Simultaneous Editing: Two people cannot open the exact same project file from the Space and edit it simultaneously seeing each other's changes in real-time. The system is based on syncing versions of the project file. If two people edit the same file locally without syncing frequently, you risk creating conflicting versions.
Why you can't "create a project directly from the space" in the way you want:
While you can save a new project into a folder that is synced with your Space, the editing process itself still happens within your local CapCut application instance. The Space acts as the central repository and syncing mechanism, not a live co-editing environment.
How to Work Effectively (Given Current Limitations):
- Clear Communication: Establish who is working on the project at any given time to avoid overwriting each other's work or creating conflicting versions.
- Check-In/Check-Out Mentality: Although not a formal feature, mentally "check out" the project when you start editing and "check it back in" by saving and ensuring it syncs when you're done. Let your team know.
- Frequent Saving & Syncing: Whoever is editing should save frequently. This pushes updates to the Space, allowing others to get the latest version when they next open it (after syncing).
- Break Down Projects: For complex projects, consider breaking them into smaller, manageable CapCut projects. Different team members can work on different segments, which can then be combined later. You can share the common media assets via the Space.
- Use Spaces for Assets: Spaces are excellent for sharing common media files (video clips, audio, images, logos) that everyone needs access to.
Using Teamspace to Edit:
Follow these steps in order to edit using a Teamspace feature in CapCut:
-
Create a Teamspace:
-
Open CapCut Desktop and navigate to the 'Workspace' section.
-
Click on 'Create new space' at the bottom left corner.
-
Enter a name for the Space and add the email addresses of team members you wish to invite.
-
Click 'Create space' to finalize.
-
-
Upload and Share Projects:
-
Within the newly created Space, click on the 'Upload' button.
-
Select 'Upload project' from the dropdown menu.
-
Choose the project files from your local system to upload them to the Space.
-
-
Collaborative Editing:
-
Once uploaded, the project will be accessible to all invited members within the Space.
-
Members can open and edit the project directly from the Space without downloading it locally.
-
To transfer editing permissions, click on the '...' (More Options) button in the project, select 'Transfer editing permission,' and choose the member to assign.
-
By utilizing the Teamspace feature, you can streamline collaborative editing, ensuring all changes are synchronized and eliminating the need for local downloads.

In summary, while CapCut Pro enhances Spaces with more storage and members, it doesn't currently enable the Google Docs-style simultaneous co-editing you're looking for directly within the Space on the desktop app. The workflow remains centered around syncing project files for individual editing sessions.
