Hello everyone, could you please explain to me why, from time to time (it has happened 3 times already), Capcut decides to remove some AI voices from the text-to-speech tool (both desktop and online tools)? I'm talking about voices like Vibrant baritone, Adam, Alex and Natasha.

Hi,

It is a common complaint among CapCut users that AI voices, including popular ones like Vibrant Baritone, Adam, Alex, and Natasha, sometimes disappear or are removed from the text-to-speech tool. While CapCut doesn't always provide explicit reasons for these changes, here are the main reasons:

  • Updates and Revisions to AI Models: AI voice technology is constantly evolving. CapCut updates and refines its underlying AI models to improve voice quality, add new features, and optimize performance. During these updates, some older or less-used voices might be phased out, or their identifiers could change, making them appear "removed."

  • Performance and Server Load: Generating AI voices requires significant computational resources. Some voices might be more resource-intensive than others. If certain voices are causing performance issues or are less efficient, CapCut might temporarily or permanently remove them to optimize server load and ensure a smoother experience for the majority of users.

  • Licensing and Rights: Many AI voices are provided by third-party providers like Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Polly, and are subject to licensing contracts. If a licensing agreement ends or changes, CapCut may be legally required to remove or disable certain voices temporarily or permanently.

  • Regional Availability and Testing: CapCut often rolls out features and voices differently across various regions. What's available in one country might not be in another, and they might be running A/B tests to see which voices are most popular or effective in different markets.

  • This can lead to voices appearing and disappearing for users in specific locations. Some users have reported that using a VPN to connect to a US server can sometimes bring back certain features.

  • Sometimes, CapCut dynamically adjusts voice availability based on your region or language settings. If your IP address, account region, or app language changes (even due to VPN use), some voices may be restricted or hidden. For example:

    • “Adam” might be available in the U.S. but not in Europe or Asia.

    • If CapCut detects a region mismatch, it might default to a limited voice list.

  • Optimizing User Experience: CapCut might be analyzing user data to understand which voices are most frequently used and preferred. If certain voices are rarely selected, they might be removed to streamline the interface and present a more curated selection to users. They might also be aiming to introduce newer, higher-quality voices and are removing older ones to make space or encourage adoption of the new ones.

  • CapCut (especially the online/web version) frequently runs backend updates and experiments, which may:

    • Temporarily remove certain voices to test new ones

    • Restructure the TTS library or categories

    • Fix bugs or improve performance

These updates often happen without prior notice and can cause voices to disappear and later reappear.

  • Transition to Premium Features: While the voices you mentioned are generally standard, sometimes platforms move features from free to paid (Pro) tiers. It's a possibility for some features on CapCut as they seek to monetize the services.

  • Moderation & Policy Enforcement: Voices might be pulled if they were being:

    • Overused inappropriately (e.g. spammy or offensive content)

    • Reported for misrepresenting real human speech
CapCut may then re-evaluate or modify them before re-adding them.

  • AI Model Refinements: If a voice (like “Vibrant Baritone”) doesn't meet CapCut's quality or stability standards anymore — for example, it sounds robotic, glitches, or doesn’t support certain languages well — they might remove it for retraining or tweaking.

What to do when voices disappear:

  • Try switching to another region or language in your CapCut account/app settings.
  • Check for App Updates: Ensure your CapCut desktop and mobile apps are fully updated. New versions often bring back or introduce new voices.

  • Use CapCut mobile (iOS/Android), which sometimes has different voice access than the desktop or web app.

  • Clear Cache: Sometimes, clearing the app's cache can resolve display issues.

  • Explore New Voices: CapCut is continuously adding new voices. Take some time to explore the current selection; you might find new favorites.

  • Provide Feedback: CapCut usually has a feedback mechanism within the app or on their website. Letting them know which voices you miss can help them understand user demand.

  • Consider Third-Party TTS: If a specific voice is absolutely essential for your content, you might consider generating that voice using a third-party text-to-speech service (like ElevenLabs, Murf.ai, or PlayHT) and then importing the audio into CapCut.

It's frustrating when favorite tools change, but for CapCut, these changes are often part of a continuous effort to improve the product and adapt to technological advancements and user trends.
