How do I remove a filter from a clip?   Once I drop a filter onto it, I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

Thanks!

Hi,

Removing a filter in CapCut is usually straightforward once you know where to look. The process differs slightly between the mobile and desktop versions.

Here’s how to do it:

On CapCut Mobile (iOS/Android):

  1. Select the Clip: Tap on the video clip on your timeline that has the filter applied. This will highlight the clip and bring up the editing options at the bottom.
  2. Find the 'Filters' Menu: Look for the Filters option in the bottom toolbar. Tap on it.
  3. Select 'None' or 'Original': Inside the Filters menu, scroll all the way to the beginning (the leftmost option). You should see an option labelled None, Original, or sometimes represented by an icon like a circle with a slash through it. Tap this option.
  4. Confirm: Tapping None or Original should immediately remove the filter from the selected clip. You'll see the change reflected in the preview window. Tap the checkmark to confirm if necessary.
  • Alternative Check: Sometimes, filters might be grouped under the Adjust menu instead of, or in addition to, the Filters menu. If you can't find it under Filters, tap Adjust and look for a filter setting you can reset or turn off.

On CapCut Desktop (Windows/Mac):

  1. Select the Clip: Click on the video clip on your timeline that you want to remove the filter from.
  2. Open the Details Panel: Look to the top-right panel (often called the 'Details', 'Inspector', or 'Adjustments' panel). When the clip is selected, this panel shows its properties.
  3. Locate the Applied Filter: Within this panel, find the section related to effects or filters (it might be under tabs like Video -> Basic, Effects, or Adjustments). You should see the name of the filter that has been applied listed there.
  4. Remove the Filter: Next to the name of the applied filter, there should be an option to remove or disable it. This is often:
    • A small 'X' icon.
    • A trash can icon.
    • A checkbox that you can untick.
    • A reset button (often a circular arrow) specifically for the filter section. Click the appropriate icon or untick the box to remove the filter.
  • Alternative Check: Some effects (including filters) can sometimes be added as separate layers above the main video track on the timeline. If you see a coloured bar above your video clip that corresponds to the filter, you might be able to simply select that bar on the timeline and press the Delete key on your keyboard or right-click and choose Delete.

Other steps you can explore:

If the above steps have not helped then follow these steps:

  1. Deselect the Clip: Tap away from the video clip to ensure it's not selected.

  2. Access the Filters Menu: Tap the "Filters" icon at the bottom of the screen. If you don't see it immediately, you may need to swipe through the menu options to locate it.

  3. Identify the Applied Filter: Upon entering the Filters menu, a purple bar should appear under the video clip, indicating the applied filter.

  4. Remove the Filter: Tap on the purple bar to select it, then tap the trash can icon at the bottom of the screen to delete the filter.

Consider checking for any effects applied directly to the clip:

  1. Select Each Clip Individually: Tap on each clip to see if an effect has been applied.

  2. Access the Effects Menu: With the clip selected, tap on "Effects" > "Video Effects".

  3. Deselect the Effect: If an effect is active, deselect it to remove it from the clip.

If you've tried these steps and still can't remove it, double-check that you have the correct clip selected and explore the different tabs in the editing panels, as the interface can sometimes change slightly with updates.
