HELP! I first used auto captions for a video, but it didn't get everything right. When I manually add captions and choose a template, it doesn't apply the text animation to the new text, only to the automated captions. Does anyone know a solution for this?
Hi,
It seems CapCut might be treating the original batch of auto-captions and your newly added manual captions as separate entities when applying styles or animations.
You are not alone with that CapCut issue. When you apply a caption template (like one with animated text effects) to auto-generated captions, CapCut links that style only to those specific text layers.
Manually added captions don’t automatically inherit that template's styling or animation.
Here are a few potential solutions and workarounds you can try:
-
Manually Apply Style to New Captions:
- Select one of the manually added caption segments on your timeline.
- Go to the 'Style' or 'Animation' menu (whichever one you used for the auto-captions).
- Re-select the exact same template or animation you applied to the auto-captions.
- You might need to do this for each manually added caption segment. It's tedious, but often works.
- Tap the auto-caption with the correct style (animation, font, etc.).
- Tap “Copy Style” (you'll find this in the bottom toolbar—looks like a paint roller or might say "Copy Style").
- Now tap your manually added caption that you want to match.
- Tap “Paste Style.”
- That should copy over all the animations, font, color, position, etc. to your manually added caption.
-
Look for an "Apply to All" Option (After Selecting Style):
- Select one of your manually added captions.
- Apply the desired style/animation template.
- Crucially: Look carefully within the Style/Animation options menu after applying it. Sometimes there's a checkbox or button like "Apply to all captions" or "Apply to subsequent captions". If you see this, try enabling it. This might retroactively apply the style to all captions on the track, including your manual ones.
-
Edit Existing Auto-Captions Instead of Adding New Ones:
- Instead of adding entirely new text boxes, try editing the text content of the closest existing auto-caption segment.
- Tap on the auto-caption segment you want to correct or replace.
- Choose the 'Edit' or 'Batch Edit' option.
- Modify the text directly within that segment.
- Since you are modifying an existing segment that already had the style applied (or was part of the batch that got the style), it should retain the animation. You might need to adjust the timing/duration of the segment afterwards.
-
The "Delete All and Start Fresh" Method (More Drastic):
- First, make sure you have your corrected text saved somewhere (like a notepad app).
- Delete all captions from the video (both the original auto-captions and your manual additions).
- Go to 'Text' -> 'Auto Captions' again, BUT immediately correct the text using the 'Batch Edit' feature before applying any styles or animations. Get the words right first.
- Once the text content is perfect for the entire video within the auto-caption system, then select all the captions (or use an "Apply to All" feature if available when selecting a style) and apply your desired template/animation. This way, they are all treated as one single batch from the start.
-
Copy and Paste Style:
- Copy the 'style' attributes from one element and paste them onto another. See if you can select one of the correctly styled auto-captions, find a 'copy style' option, then select your manual caption and look for a 'paste style' option. This is less common for captions but worth checking.
- If you have many custom captions, you can:
- Use the split tool to break up a duplicate auto-caption layer and just change the text manually, which retains the style.
- Or duplicate a styled caption, move it in the timeline, and then just change the text.
Start with methods 1 and 2, as they are the least disruptive. If those don't work, try method 3. Method 4 is usually a last resort but often fixes inconsistencies by ensuring everything is created and styled together.
