My CapCut account is not letting me export the latest video that I have made. I have a good internet connection but CapCut is refusing to transcode a very short video <20 seconds long that I made of myself. It keeps saying try again later after it tries to transcode less than 10% of the video. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Hi,
Yes that is a problem within CapCut especially for a short video. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help you fix the CapCut export/transcoding error, even with a good internet connection:
1. Clear Cache (on PC or Mobile)
Sometimes, corrupted or overloaded cache files can cause export/transcode issues.
-
PC:
-
Open CapCut.
-
Go to Settings (top right corner).
-
Click Clear Cache.
-
-
Mobile:
-
Go to App Settings > Storage > Clear Cache.
-
Do not clear data unless you’ve backed up your projects to the cloud.
-
2. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration (on PC)
Hardware acceleration can conflict with certain devices or GPUs.
-
Go to Settings > Performance > Turn Off Hardware Acceleration.
-
Restart CapCut and try exporting again.
3. Try Offline Export (If on PC)
If you're on CapCut PC, it might be trying to process the video via cloud servers.
-
Disconnect from the internet after loading the project.
-
Try exporting the video offline.
-
This forces CapCut to use local resources instead of cloud transcoding.
4. Change Export Settings
Sometimes a particular resolution or codec setting causes failure.
-
Try changing:
-
Resolution to 1080p or lower
-
Frame rate to 30 fps
-
Bitrate to Standard
-
-
Also try exporting without any filters, effects, or AI tools, just for testing.
5. Export Without Your Face (AI Tools Conflict)
Since you mentioned it's a selfie video, check:
-
Are you using CapCut’s AI effects, face-tracking, beauty filters, or AI-based captioning?
-
If yes, disable them temporarily and try exporting a copy of the project without those.
-
6. Use "Save to Draft" + New Project
-
Save your project.
-
Create a new project and import the exported draft as a video.
-
Try exporting that new project — sometimes this helps bypass corrupt settings.
7. Update or Reinstall CapCut
-
Check for updates (especially on PC, older versions can be buggy).
-
If nothing works, back up your projects to the CapCut Cloud (Pro feature), then uninstall and reinstall CapCut.
8. Storage Space:
-
Device Storage: Even a short video needs temporary space for transcoding and the final export. Check your device's available storage. If it's low, delete unused apps, old files, or move media to cloud storage/an external drive.
-
CapCut Cache: Accumulated cache data can cause glitches.
-
Android: Go to Settings > Apps > CapCut > Storage & Cache, then tap "Clear Cache."
-
iPhone: Uninstalling and reinstalling the app usually clears the cache (your cloud-stored projects should remain).
-
PC/Mac: In CapCut, go to Settings, then the "Project" or "Performance" tab, and look for an option to clear cache or proxy files
-
9. Project-Specific Issues:
-
Problematic Clip/Element: Sometimes, a specific clip, image, effect, transition, or audio element in your timeline can be corrupted or incompatible, causing the export to fail.
-
Isolate the issue: Try exporting smaller sections of your video. If one section fails, you can narrow down the problematic element.
-
Remove and re-add: Once you identify a potential problematic element, try removing it and then re-adding it.
-
Simplify effects/transitions: If you've used many complex effects or transitions, try simplifying them or removing them temporarily to see if that allows the export. Some advanced features, especially after updates, might suddenly require a "Pro" subscription.
-
-
Corrupted Project File: In rare cases, the entire project file can become corrupted.
-
Duplicate the project: Try duplicating your project and exporting the duplicated version.
-
Recreate the project: As a last resort, if the video is very short, you might consider recreating it in a new project.
-
If All Fails: Try Manual Workaround
-
Record your screen while previewing the video.
-
Use a screen recording tool (like OBS Studio or Xbox Game Bar).
-
Trim the recording and use it instead — a temporary fix if the export fails completely.
- Exporting in sections: If your video has distinct parts, you could try exporting them individually and then stitching them together in another simple video editor if needed.
Contacting CapCut Support: If the issue persists after trying all these troubleshooting steps, it might be a more specific bug. Reaching out to CapCut's official support is the next best step.
Given your video is very short (<20 seconds), the most probable causes are insufficient storage, a problematic element within the video, or a temporary app glitch. Start with checking storage and clearing the cache.
