Hi,

It sounds like your CapCut preview is lagging or playing video in slow motion, but the audio is normal. This is a common issue on both desktop and mobile, usually caused by device performance or preview settings. Here's how to fix it depending on your device:

Quick fixes (try first)

  1. Restart CapCut and your device.

  2. Close all background apps.

  3. Clear CapCut cache (Settings → App Settings → Clear Cache).

  4. Make sure your CapCut app is updated to the latest version.

Common Causes:

  • App Cache/Data Glitches: Over time, CapCut cache can become corrupted, leading to unexpected behavior.

  • Outdated App Version: Bugs are often fixed in newer updates.

  • Insufficient Device Resources: If your phone is low on RAM or storage, CapCut might struggle to process videos at normal speed.

  • Heavy Project Complexity: Projects with many layers, effects, high-resolution footage (especially 4K), or long durations can strain your device.

  • Corrupted Source Files: Less common, but sometimes the original video files themselves can be problematic.

  • Playback Quality Settings: CapCut might be trying to play back at a higher quality than your device can handle in real-time.

If you are using CapCut on PC or Mac:

1. Lower Preview Quality

  • Go to the preview window.

  • Look for “Preview Quality” (usually a dropdown like "Original", "HD", etc.).

  • Set it to “Low” or “Standard” to improve performance.

2. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration (if on Windows)

  • Go to Settings (top right gear icon).

  • Disable Hardware Acceleration (this often helps with lag on lower-end PCs).

3. Check Your Computer Specs

  • Make sure your device has at least 8 GB RAM, SSD, and a modern CPU/GPU.

  • Video files in 4K or high bitrate may slow down older machines — try converting them to lower resolution or proxies.

If You’re Using CapCut on Android or iPhone:

1. Use the "Performance Mode"

  • In CapCut, go to Settings > Performance mode (if available) and turn it ON.

2. Avoid Too Many Effects or Overlays

  • Remove any heavy effects like:

    • Motion blur

    • Background removal

    • Too many filters or transitions

3. Try Shorter Clips

  • If you're editing long videos, try trimming the project or splitting it into parts to reduce preview lag.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Clear CapCut Cache:

    • In CapCut app: Go to the "Me" tab (or your profile icon), then tap the gear icon (settings) in the top right. Scroll down and look for "Clear cache" or "Storage & cache" and clear it.

    • Through phone settings:

      • Android: Go to your phone's "Settings" > "Apps" (or "Apps & notifications" / "App management") > Find "CapCut" > "Storage & cache" > Tap "Clear cache." You might also see "Clear storage" or "Clear data," but be aware that this will log you out and delete project drafts, so try "Clear cache" first.

      • iOS (iPhone): There isn't a direct "clear cache" button for individual apps like Android. You'll usually need to offload the app (which keeps your documents and data) or delete and reinstall it (which deletes everything). Try offloading first. Go to "Settings" > "General" > "iPhone Storage" > Find "CapCut" > "Offload App." Then reinstall it.

  • Reduce Playback Quality (within CapCut):

    • When you're in a project, use the settings or playback quality option. There is a small gear icon or a resolution setting near the preview window. Lower the playback resolution or quality to see if it helps. This only affects the preview, not the exported video.

  • Simplify Your Project:

    • If your project is very complex with many layers, effects, or high-resolution clips, try reducing the complexity.

    • Consider splitting a very long video into smaller sections and editing them separately, then combining them later.

    • If you're working with 4K footage, try converting it to 1080p before importing it into CapCut (you can use other video converter apps for this if needed).

  • Check Original Clip Speed:

    • Double-check that the original clips themselves aren't already in slow motion before you import them into CapCut. Play them outside of CapCut to verify.

  • Free Up Device Storage: Ensure you have enough free space on your phone. Low storage can severely impact app performance. Delete unnecessary photos, videos, or apps.

If it is still not working

Let us know:

  • Are you using CapCut on PC, Mac, or mobile?

  • Are you editing 4K or high frame rate footage?

  • Does it happen on all projects, or just one?

With that info, we can guide you better.

If you've tried all of these and are still having trouble, it might be a deeper compatibility issue with your specific phone model or a more persistent bug in CapCut. In that case, reaching out to CapCut support would be the next step.
